Hi guys,
Just few days ago, i just bought limited edition of the nintendo wii (black) - they looks awsome.Today i want to find out what firmware do i have and it showing up as "4.2e"
i've no idea which method do i have to follow in order to get into homebrew and also i dont like the idea of having modchip into my wii....
please correct me if i'm wrong, by getting into homebrew - will that allow me to play my own backup dvd-r?
i shall be looking forward to hear your expert help!

1. use bannerbomb v2: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Bannerbomb
2. Run the hackmii installer, I also suggest install bootmii as IOS and doing a backup: http://bootmii.org/download/
3. You can't use disc backups, you can only use a USB loader (recommend USB Loader GX (to run and rip games on the wii or WBFS manager (to install games from the PC)).
4. I also suggest installing preloader to prevent accidental updates, basic brick protection, etc.:

1. Mimimum of at least 1GB if you are doing a bootmii backup. Otherwise any size SD card should do.
2. A USB powered one should be fine, at least it is on my early 2007 model. I believe that there is a compatibility chart somewhere but I cannot say where (google it).

Personally, I never trust those packages because they are most likely to be outdated.
Also, as an update, I suggest using priiloader instead of preloader and bannerbomb v2 location:
1. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Preloader/Priiloader
2. http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/index.new.php
The reason for priiloader over preloader is that this is compatible with 4.2 without patching it.

Yes you are right, they can be outdated - that's why i'm worry about it...i don't want to end up brick my wii for nothing.....
Look like I'm going to learn hard way that's the best policy....at 2nd posted - i went to that website below
http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/index.new.php
what's confusing me is...
I've download "abd6a_v200.zip" from above url - but this site mention following:
Go download the HackMii installer. Copy installer.elf to the root of the SD card, and rename it to boot.elf.
so i went to HackMii's website to download the "hackmii_installer_v0.6" but i cannot find the filename called "installer.elf" but all i see it "boot.elf" is that correct?

yes it is.
for the record, any applications for the homebrew channel go in SD:/apps/(app name)/boot.elf
elf/dols are the exes of the wii console.

hi again...
let me get stright in my head - please correct me if i'm wrong...
all you have to do...extract "abd6a_v200.zip" on to SD media (2gb)
Now i see only folder called "Private"
again i have to extract the filename called "boot.elf" from the hackmii_installer_v0.6.zip on to SD
last thing i see like this...
SD media (2gb)
[private]
boot.elf
Total: 1.46 MB (1,531,936 bytes)
that should slap up wii into homebrew?

yes, just go to the SD channel (the SD icon on the home channel) and it should prompt you.

great, before i start doing anything but how can i make nand backup first?
tech3475

well, I suppose you can use the non-bootmii solution first with bannerbomb such as this: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Yet_Another_Wii_NAND_Dumper
Though I can't say how a restore would work.
the only other way is to install the HBC and bootmii as IOS which is mostly safe anyway.
Once in the HBC, press the home button and select bootmii.
press the power button to move, reset to select. Go into the option/settings and select the icon with the chip and green arrow point away.

Bootmii runs off the sd card, it should have done this during the installation so try running the hackmii installer again, if it says something about formatting accept (backup your card first).

do you mean install again "bootmii as IOS"?

yes, it should install the files during the installation or IIRC there is an option on the on the same menu to just format the SD card (and install the files).

ok now i'm confuse what i should do next - Preloader or Priiloader? which one is the best for my model?

Bad blocks are normal, I have about 5 on mine.
in regards to preloader, I can't say as I have never used priiloader. Maybe try a google search.
I personally have 4.1 and preloader 0.29 with a non-SDHC card which works fine, but I can't say about priiloader or 4.2

need bit of help with internet connection
i've got wired network adapter connected on 1st usb port (top) - now i've tried to connect internet but this came up as:
"The connection test was successful perform a wii system update now wii support code: 61212" i clicked "Yes"
now next pop up said "important: if you do not wish to accept this upgrade, you can shut down your wii console (by holding down the power button for (4) seconds) and abort the upgrade........."
so i did pressed the "power button" and now i cant use internet? is there any way i can connect internet and bypass this upgrade?

What firmware is the Wii on?
In general you don't want to update your Wii anyway.
http://gwht.wikidot.com/ios249 there's a full guide to prepare your Wii here, Install the latest shop channel and so on here.
