I was just wondering if it would be possible to cluster the ps3s that still have linux on them in order to crack the ps3's encryption? I know that someone is trying to use them to help find a cure for cancer, so wouldn't it be possible for someone to write a program that will cluster everyone that still has other os on their ps3s to work on finding a crack for it?

yeah, giving you an answer....how selfish.

The reason why the encryption can't be cracked is simply because trying to brute force large encryption keys is virtually impossible because it would take a ridiculous amount of time (ranging from years, decades or centuries depending on computational power and then somehow testing it).

If anything trying to do it with a PS3 cluster on increasingly rare Linux capable PS3s would be a 'laugh'.

All modern hacks involve there being a flaw somewhere such as a key being left in RAM or flaws in the implementation.
