Piracy is a common thing since the 80s.
To all the crying developers and publishers, there is one very simple resolution to still sell and make money:
- deliver a GOOD game!

There is only a way. It is cut software price. Look Sony on Psn, no stores, no seller, ecc ecc but price is always to high.

i do believe if they wanted to stop piracy they would lower prices, but honestly i dont think they do, piracy fosters hardware sales and since most games aren't 1st party its beneficial
my proof being look at most successful consoles
they are also the most pirated
some might say its anecdotal evidence but you cant prove it wrong

no matter about quality or pricing, piracy will still remain. if a AAA game costs $10, it would still be pirated. the cost and quality issues are just covers pirates use to justify their existance. the only sure fire way to eliminate piracy, give everything away for free.
we are in a world where everyone has an entitlement mentality. they feel they are entitled to everything and anything.
there is no solution to piracy, drm doesn't work, pricing doesn't work, nothing seems to work to eliminate piracy, it will remain with us for the foreseeable future.

Piracy can be a big problem and really there is no way to get rid of piracy completely. In my opinion companies need to stop wasting so much time and money trying to eliminate piracy and simply focus on the things that reduce it. Obviously the biggest problem that causes people to turn to piracy in the first place is over-pricing. After that there is the quality of the pirated material, not being able to try something before you buy it, and of course the one and only problem companies seem to see is the ease at which pirated material is made. The best thing that can be done is to stop fighting a war that can't be won and start fixing the problems that made people wanna have a war in the first place. That goes for America's "War on Terror" also. Then again I don't really think our government ever really wanted the "War on Terror" to end in the first place.

Piracy is unstoppable. But there are ways to cut it down considerably. Protection and encryption is not one of them.
What could actually bring piracy numbers down in my opinion:
Cut down game prices to a more normal level. That is, a price level that is in accordance with the average family income. Normal people should be able to buy 1-2 original games per month without fearing that they won't have food at the end of the month.
Test all games before release. If the game is utter crap, don't release it. Make sure the customers gets quality for their money.
Create added value that can't be copied easily. A nice box is one thing, some added goodies are another. Best would be if the goodies are essential for finishing the game.
Cut all protection crap to make sure that the original game is as easy to install and use as the pirated one. For now, pirated games are much more comfortable to use and have less problems.
Just to make a few suggestions, there might be much more.

Sony did a pretty good job with the PS3 to stop piracy, i think anti-piracy protection may work if it is done correctly.

you are right except that the ps3 is in dead last as far as sales go, compare that to the psx and ps2 where piracy was rampant and they sold almost unprecedented numbers not just in hardware sales but also software.

Certainly hasn't helped with the App Store for apple....hell look at most of gamelofts titles, Brothers In Arms 2 for instance is on sale for 99 cents yet you can still find dozens and dozens of torrents for it (full price its less than $5). If games were a buck people would still pirate them. I kinda funny that people tend to put no value in what others do but then think their own time an effort is valuable. If for instance most of us worked a week and our bosses decided not to pay us, how many would just accept it?
