OK, I have a PS3 that will not read any discs, Sony wants me to pay them $150 to repair it, which I refuse to do. My son also has a working PS3 thin. I am on FW 3.30.
I read something about an android hack? I have a motorola Droid X phone that is rooted.
Plenty of spare external hard drives laying around. Is there currently anything I can do that will let me play my games off a hard drive?
If not, is there anything I should do to prepare for a forthcoming exploit? (Should I update my firmware or leave it at 3.30?)
Thanks in advance for any help. I did search the forums but info is so scattered around.

OK after some more reading I updated firmware to 3.41 and unplugged it from my network. Now Ill just have to wait for an exploit I can use.

You need to repair your blu-ray drive.
To use PSGroove you will always need a disc in the drive.
External drives do not support games containing files which exceed 4GB in size.
You may be able to subscribe to PSN+ and get a repair done on the included warranty depending on your location.

Then I'll just wait and continue to use my sons PS3. Im not paying them $150.

Not to mention you dont want Sony to upgrade your ps3 to the latest firmware because you know they had a bunch of ps3s in the repair shop on hold as to not repair ps3s that could then be used against them....
when you insert your disc into the bluray drive do you hear 3 faint clicks?
what moddel is your ps3?
if you can answer those questions i can probably help you... unless the BLIC is fried then your pretty screwed unless someone can right you a new drive firmware...
... hmm only 3 posts i wonder what happed to my account... oh well not that important carry on

No, I do not hear anything. The little loader thing comes up in the top right and just sits there at the menu screen.
