I doubt it will have 3.42.

You won't see 3.42 equipped brand new units for quite some time. Seeing as 3.42 came out 4 days ago...there's just no way. Just buy a PS3, any PS3, it won't have 3.42, it probably won't even have 3.41.

nice!
now I wonder if the 320gb version have 3.42, The only reason I want a 320gb is because of the big HDD size, but I heard you can use a 2.5 sata (http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/term.cfm/sata) HDD you buy and install it to the PS3 (http://www.afterdawn.com/hardware/category.cfm/game_consoles?q=playstation%203)?

Will the sata HDD that you install on the PS3 be slower or faster than the PS3's official HDD?
If it's at the same speed then I won't get this 320gb version, I risk getting 3.42, plus, 360GB isn't even enough for me, I wanna get like 1tb sata drive and install to the PS3.

So, how does the speed goes for the 3rd party sata HDD vs official sony ps3 hdd?

I just bought another slim Saturday.. has 3.30 on it and it is model 2103A so i doubt you'll have any trouble with that.

The ones people may want to avoid a console ending with 25xxA/B though.
25xxA (160gb) was released during August for USA and October for Europe.
25xxB (320gb) will be released on the 19th of September for USA and 15th of September for Europe.

Anything released before September should be okay so i would definitely avoid 25xxB (320gb) i would probably avoid 25xxA (160gb) unless you know the stock is older.

There is a sticker on the underside of the box listing the model number, so you should have no trouble.

One thing I have always done is make sure I buy my hackable consoles used from a truested retailer (i.e. EBGames, Gamestop, ect)

I have never had a problem with the consoles, and you are guarenteed to find one that has older firmwares. I remember I picked up my PSP from EBGames and it had firmware 1.50 on it.

And, if you want to be 100% certain that it has the right firmware, most of them will let you test the unit before you leave with it. in which while your "testing" it, you can check up on the firmware version.

Plus you'll save yourself a couple of bucks.

Why should you aviod the new models if they come with a firmware <3.41?
(I want to buy the new 320GB) and has anyone tried the psjailbreak on the new models?

New 320gb models in the U.K. have firmware 3.40 pre-installed on them at the moment. Give it a few weeks to a few months and that will change. PS3's are manufactured in china and then shipped across the world so it takes at least weeks for a firmware to filter through to those just arriving in stock in shops.

It was a note of caution.. in the past Sony have delayed or recalled hardware so they could secure the software side of things. The launch of the PSP was delayed in the UK just so Sony could install 2.00 on each unit.. they took stock back from stores.

Retail availability Japan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan): December 12, 2004
USA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA) & Canada (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada): March 24, 2005
Europe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe) & Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia): September 1, 2005

That was a fun delay ;)

As kvcr400 said these units seem to be fine right now, it does not seem that Sony have reacted in the same way so everything should be fine.
