Having some problems with .pkg files...

Hi guys,

I have successfully jailbroken my ps3 using my droid eris, I can install .pkg files but when I try to run any of them it hangs on a black screen. Last night I did a 9 hour format on my 120 gig drive hoping to fix the prob. I have restored and formatted the drive/system multiple times... I just don't get it, anyone else having this problem?

It all worked fine on my friends 40 gig model which is the same as mine. One thing to note is the blue ray drive doesn't read disks, it was like that when I got it. Not a big deal for me since I picked up this console for homebrew. I've spent a couple of hours searching for an answer and all I can find are references to backup manager.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I also reinstalled my 3.41 firmware from usb to try and fix the problem

All i can suggest is that it may be due to the drive or whatever happened to it.

You could try an unpatched version of PSgroove/PSfreedom that does not have the ability to run backups.

You could also try running an application that is not backup related such as the snes emulator.

Other than that you may be looking at repairing the drive depending on why it failed in the first place.

Actually the snes emu is the first thing I tried and I've also tried non-backup enabled psfreedom. God, I hope it's not my blueray logic board...

I just spent 5 hours trying to fix my blue ray drive and watching videos on it. I may have to try a laser replacement. Funny thing is that the discs spin up and the lasers fire but the ps3 just spins the clock. I also cleaned the laser and disassembled the drive removed the laser unit and remade all of the connections. I think I might be screwed, I traded my netbook for this POS. My friend has a broken ps3, I'll try and swap some parts out until I can try a laser replacement. If my drive is bad maybe I can make a burning laser with the blue ray diode :p
