What do you think is the fastest device that can be used with the psp in order to avoid lag in games (coughPSP2cough)?
a memory stick? a micro sd?
please post detailed names, and benchmarks too, maybe. I believe Sandisk is a good Memory Stick brand and Lexar is one of the poorest, but apart from that I can't really help myself, and information on the internet is outdated

I have always trusted sandisk as an officially licensed memory stick manufacturer.
Just buy them from trustworthy places to make sure your product is genuine and im sure you'll be happy.

I would buy them from the official store, no doubt. which parameters do I have to look for in order to get a good memory sticks that helps to get a lag-free experience?

As long as its genuine i really do not see a problem.
I have one of these http://www.game.co.uk/Accessories/PSP/SanDisk-4GB-Memory-Stick-PRO-Duo/~r331135/?s=memory+stick (http://www.game.co.uk/Accessories/PSP/SanDisk-4GB-Memory-Stick-PRO-Duo/%7Er331135/?s=memory+stick)

They are not the hugest cards i know but the bottom one i have had ever since i bought my PSP back at UK launch. It's fast and obviously reliable.
The red card above has been in use for about a year and handles everything i throw at it.

I have a (I think) genuine sony pro duo 4gb and it is not really that good. that's why I'd like to spend more for a good MS. sandisk is the way to go I believe.

All i can really do is tell you what i know from my own experiences.
I found sandisk to be excellent but if you're looking for extreme performance you may want to look into the Sandisk Ultra I/II/III range, you might pay a little more for that though possibly for little benefit on the PSP side of things i don't know.

That one will cost a British person £52.99

Not only this, but are actually the only memory sticks that will work with Pandora and MMS files.
Anything with Sandisk "Magic Gate" and your set

I found this in any case

a good reference, maybe? it tells us the psp can support all the way up to 32gb oh hi-speed MS. is there a homebrew that lets the psp use the full power of the MS?

Sandisk is for sure the best brand for pro duo..but is impossible to eliminate lags...there are game that with best pro duo and cpu set to 333Mhz. lags are inevitable...
