at a staggering resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels requiring an astounding 24Gb/s of broadcast bandwidth the BBC transmitted a gig by The Charlatans from the UK to Japan, the BBC says it hopes to broadcast using this new format by the time of the London 2012 Olympics to displays set up for public viewing around the home countries, NHK have said they hope to start domestic broadcasting in super hi vision by 2020.
oh and yes, they are working on a 3d version.
i think we are going to need faster connections and they are going to have to be cap free to begin with and lets face it even bdxl is toast if we want to be able to record anything.
so thats hd tv 2008-2010, 3d tv 2011-2012, glasses free 3dtv 2012-2014, oled tv 2014-2019 and then super hi vision 2020-????. new tv's for everyone over and over again?
since we are told the ps3 will have a 10 year lifespan (till 2015) dos this mean that the ps4 will have to offer super hi vision as standard to stop it being outdated in 5 years?
The technology, 16 times sharper than HDTV, has been developed by Japanese public broadcaster NHK.
The standard could be used on giant public viewing screens, some of which may be in place for the 2012 Olympics.
NHK hope to broadcast in Super Hi-Vision by 2020, although no television currently exists that can fully show off the 7680-by-4320 pixel signal.
The "full HD" currently available means a display of 1920 by 1080 pixels - one-fourth the number of pixels both vertically and horizontally.
Dr Keiichi Kubota, head of research and development at NHK, described the transmission as a "historic moment".
