joking aside, yes parents certainly do, most people i know of who have children, have bought them some sort of games console from very early ages, those children computers (VTECH?) seem to get bought for 3 year olds, then once the child hits around 5 they seem to get DS's, 360's etc

Yeah. I remember a Simpson episode where, there was an interview to Simposn family, where homer, say something of kind: " Anybody say us, how much hard was pay attention to three children, after we have discovered the TV, and all was easier". Same thing for real parents.

The picture is great but to say all use games as babysitters is utter rubbish. Babysitter means you go out somewhere and leave them at home etc. Them playing games is no different than playing with toys or watching tv or reading a book, its giving them there own space but your still on hand as a parent.

That's why baby sitters was in quotes; not baby sitting per se but as a way of reducing their own effort as a parent, often allowing children hours on end. That being said some parents are as bad there are cases where children have died because parents are playing video games out in the internet cafe.
