First off, i'd like to pose this question to nobody in particular, but why no ps3 development and hacking section in ps3?
With that said, I have always looked at the JaiCrab CFW loader with hope when it came out, thinking that if I just wanted to play on the new firmware, i'll just load it in JaiCrab. Started researching it and I soon found out that's not the way it works. You can only copy your current dev_flash of your current firmware, modify and use that to load from.
I took a look into the pup files, decrypted it hoping I would find dev_flash in there, but I didn't...well not really.
I found files in and update.tar archive labeled as such: dev_flash_000.tar.aa.2011_01_29_035533
This was found in the 3.55 update. Seems kind of obvious that the appended name on the back is release date with yyyy_mm_dd_fmwver. I'm wondering if anybody has any ideas on how to get access to these files or know if the actual dev_flash has files similar to this as I am not near my machine atm. My hope is to a) pull current dev_flash and backup to usb and b) use these update files to update the copy of the dev_flash on my usb to run latest fw in hopes of playing online and whatnot. Homebrew or any of that would not personally be my concern as my intention is to play my purchased games online even at a possible performance degradation. Any ideas or insights?

Support for that forum has been withdrawn and will not be reinstated.

all the other companies dont support their platforms buy suing everyone in the same room as a hacked (or even unhacked) pos3, you cant blame the owners here for wanting to avoid getting hit with a subpoena to hand over the ip's of all members except the sdf guys, nor do they want to find sony using screenshots of threads here in court documents attempting to stifle the consumer rights of their customers.

Those are relics of an old era, they may be removed at some point without prior notice. As has been reiterated in front page discussions, despite the roots of this site it is no longer a scene site, news on breakthroughs will still appear but in a more mainstream fashion than they once used to, that transition was taking place before the Playstation 3 was hacked.
@billysastard this site was never really at risk of that due to the policies that were already in place, it has less to do with that than you'd think. We did not allow a lot of things before that forum came and went, it was basically limited to discussion only, careful discussion at that.
The 'owners' actually had something different in mind ;)

Was wondering this, thanks. Still strange though how they don't care about the PSP, they've probably given up by now...

Ahhh, that's a shame. I decided to check out Maxconsoles PS3 forums for the first time today, and this is most disappointing..
I remember "the good ol' days" on maxconsole.
This site was really hot at one point.
Oh well. At any rate, you guys do post hot off the press commercial news on the front page, so i will still pop in to visit from time to time. :)

@Threedog, I presume thats the reason why my CFW linux topic got deleted (I only just read this topic now)?
Just wondering, will there be any change in policy for the other consoles, or is it just the PS3?

If your post is gone and did not contain anything warranting immediate removal (file links - piracy related subjects - drm hacks - how to run free games) then the most likely reason for it vanishing is a failure by someone on this site while removing spam.. which does happen very occasionally (we've all been guilty of it at one stage or another lol).
