As an unbiased xbox fan I am suprised at the success of the kinect. I always thought this would fail and the move would have a chance... honestly.

i have to say i agree completely, yes, ok, i do have a kinect but only for the laugh, i'd much prefer to have been able to buy a move (sony dont allow me to play games on my ps3 so no point) although i guess i'm just happy that i already have the superior wii m+ remotes.

Who would know that Kinect would be this hot?
Not only that, but a camera control sold alot more than PS3 Move. PS3 Move is not as good as Wii with Motion+, and PS3 dont even have motion controll on the Navicon.. Could be why it did worse.
I have PS3 Move+Navicon, but not Kinect. I will get Kinect later.

i think really only xbox fanboys thought it would sell, with the move system only ps3 fanboys seemed to think it was all things to all men although i do think its better than kinect (which i do own) but still missing too much to compare it to the wii m+ setup.
(dont own move as my ps3 isnt compatible and move games dont work)

reason for buying kinect = move is not compatible with my ps3 thanks to a certain set of criminals removing my ability to play anything released after 1st april 2010.
i only got the thing a week or so ago and even then only because i was able to buy it new at a price i thought it was worth (a lot less than even a 1 player move setup), put it this way i got it retail with 2 games for under £60

Looks like the billion dollar advertisement campaign paid off for MS. No surprises that if you going to spend that much money on advertisements to shove in people's faces that it would garantee to sell. It doesn't mean the device is better then another. I betcha the people who are buying these are your average mums and dads who knows nothing about games. They will be sorry when they find out their room isnt big enough for Kinect or that Kinect causes the Xboxes to RROP and dies. I expect there will be lots of returns.

Congrats Microsoft for contributing a new gaming experience and further expanding this gen with wii. Enjoy your spot in the world records its well deserved.

I thought Kinect had very limited appeal and wouldn't sell.. very wrong.

No doubt it's the most returned gadget of all time too. Congrats to MS for not contributing to a new gaming experience, this has been done before on the PS2 PS3, Wii, and DS. None of it's claimed success is deserved.

At first i didnt think kinect would work like it does. I was skeptical of the new tech.
Im be honest. You can go back when kinect launched and i said i wasnt getting it. Then i got it as a gift and was shocked!!! I know it doesnt work perfect for everyone and thats sad. because when it does setup it works great and is a blast!
Ill admit people that saw wii at my house 90% went and got 1. Then people that saw kinect at my house went and got 1 of those as well. It works great its a ton of fun and a good workout. After seeing the way it works and actually playing it myself and having it setup at parties, im not shocked at all its sold like wild fire.
Hopefully 3rd party devs have used the time to learn the tools to make a kinect game as its a good opportunity to make some money in a fresh market looking for more games.
But microsoft deserves alot of credit for seeing what they had with kinect and really getting behind it.
As its a major deal that wii blasted xbox 360 and ps3 (about combined sales) out the water. Kinect sales and make the world record is a major accomplishment. props to them for that!

something that ms really should be worried about is the attachment rate associated with kinect.
despite selling over 10 million hardware units software sales of kinect titles are only around the same number which means that the average kinect buyer buys no games at all (just the freebie adventures) software sales at just over 10 million would mean one title sold for each kinect but as many on here seem to have multiple games that means many others have bought none, if that is the case then how many of those sold kinect hardware units are either sat doing nothing or heading into pre-owned channels.

I still can't believe that it's selling, never mind selling this well... just selling at all surprises me. Still, I think what you're saying may explain things. I know one guy with Kinect and he has like 2 games for it, talking with him a few of his friends have it, but have not bought any games and hardly ever use it after the first 2 - 3 hours.

I wasn't joking about the return rate. I would really like to see that. If it isn't the highest return rate of all time, I'm sure it's in the top three. Anyone know how to find that info.

i really dont have a clue how you could ever hope to get those numbers given the diversity in ways of getting rid of them, but, i can tell you that my local CEX store (not a big one) had in excess of 20 available within the first 24 hours and since then they have refused to buy any more into stock, worse is they still have 5-6 of them left even now of course that could be due to the fact that they are ripping off twats reselling them for way too much, £90 without a game, £75 for the slim versions (no psu or usb extender) again without a game then wanting £30 for a pre-owned kinect game.

Blah blah, wii move, blah.
Keep your waggles I'll stick with a completely different full body experience.
Job well done, for once, MS.

completely different because it only works in an highly illuminated barn or completely different because it uses guesswork in place of accuracy (or at least it seems to), its sad but even the basic wii remote can give accuracy many times better than kinect for all its 3d "vision", its really frustrating because on sme games you can see kinect tracking you but it just doesnt seem able to translate that initial tracking into movement in game wheras others over compensate drastically.
just try crossboard 7 and sonic free riders, crossboard 7 turns you in circles if you lean even a tiny bit, sonic can barely tell if you are facing sideways or forward let alone leaning, you have to almost overbalence to get it to notice, likewise leaning in kinect joyride seems to be a totally disconnected experience, sometimes it works, most times it doesnt, never even coming close to the sensitivity of lets say mariokart on the wii.

Ya know, I hate to keep bashing on XBots, but good grief, you guys are so retarded, seriously. Do an image search on google for "eyetoy". Look at all the games that have already done everything the kinect is doing....except this was on the PS2!, years ago even. MS didn't invent anything new here. The fact that it sold so much is a testament to how retarded XBots are. Sony did the "completely different full body experience" years ago, where were you?

Yep, some launch games are poop but Kinectimals, Sports and Adventures are extremely accurate. I do have the benefit of, as you put it, living in an highly illuminated barn.

i do too but i've now bought every kinect game (i think) just to find one worth playing, kinect sports is certainly nowhere near as good as wii sports (or resort) and therefore most likely not as good as move sports or whatever its called, kinectimals really isnt my thing (although it was one of the first i got because it looked pretty and it was recommended) but is it really any better than eyepet (non move edition obviously).

A couple of mates got one, but I've yet to make the plunge.
Its a good bit of gear but the type of games do not appeal for me. I can however see the appeal and think MS did a good job ( both technology and marketing ).
Still all about the games for me, I dont think one good game deserves a £129 purchase. The move, which sits gathering dust was half that.
The biggest dust gatherer of them all (Wii) will probably get a revival when Skyward Sword is released.

i was like you, i got the chance to get one new for less than £60 so i took the plunge, spent a fortune on games but frankly its like wall to wall wii shovelware with no sign of the great games the wii has, maybe in the future it'll pick up but at present it cant even compete with move let alone the wii.

What was the deal with the £60 again? Did you have to buy two full priced Kinect games to get the device for £60?
As much as I have previously been negative towards Kinect if I could get one on it's own for £60 I would probably give it a shot... might even help with alcohol related padding ;)

no, the offer was on amazon, it kept changing but at its best point it was £109.99 for the kinect + adventures + joyride but they had a £10 off code which made it £99.99 for the sensor + 2 games, from a previous deal i'd got on amazon i'd ended up with a £40 gift card and i had an additional couple of quid on my account so all in i paid around £57 for the sensor + adventures + joyride, then there was a further selection of games i could get at £20 each and since then i've picked up the rest a couple new but most pre-owned at prices down to £5 (sonic, xboard 7 and dance evolution) all in with every game so far available its cost around £200-£220 with another £40 tomorrow for yoostar2 (at which poiint i'll have 16 games, i did skip a few dance and fitness titles and one sports game that i was warned was so shite it made even the worst wii shovelware look good, sports island iirc)
i did post details of the offer in submit news when it was at £109.99 (it dropped again the week after then went back up) but it never made it to the front page, heck if needed you could also buy a solus 250gb s 360 for £159 but that offer has gone now.

Thanks for the answer, I'll wait then. I figure in the summer slump retailers should come up with some good deals and by then Child of Eden will be out which I will be buying even if I don't own a motion controller, because it just looks amazing!

i note that as of today its down to £89 with 2 games (adventures + joyride), go to amazon uk put kinect and joyride in your basket then at checkout enter "GOKINECT" (without quotes) and it will discount the whole pack down to £89.99.
