Nintendo Wii loophole allows gamers to retain GameCube support

If you looking for an new, but original Wii design with all those Gamecube ports, slots and compatible disc support, have no fear we got the details on what bundle deal to shop for this holiday season

If you are fan of Gamecube, but looking to jump finally into the Wii era, you have to make sure you grab the right Wii bundle this shopping season, as both look the same, black box, new design on the front, etc.

But inside, a big difference one has the newer improved Wii, improved if you thinking laying flat and removing Gamecube is an improvment!

The other is still the same, most likely because Nintendo has tons of old models left to get rid off, how long this 'loophole' will last is anyone's guess.

Just like Sony did with PS2 support, Nintendo are removing GameCube functionality from all new consoles. One example of this can be seen in the recently announced New Super Mario Bros Wii bundle which will be hitting shops on October 23, priced at $150 as reported from Joystiq.

The bundle will consist of a black Nintendo Wii console, the New Super Mario Bros game, a black Nunchuk and also a bonus CD containing tracks from Super Mario Galaxy. As also noted by Joystiq though, is a little ‘retro' loophole that you may want to consider if you are buying a Wii. Nintendo has confirmed that they'll also be selling the exact same bundle, but with Mario Kart instead of New Super Mario Bros for the same price. The big difference between the two bundles though, is that the Mario Kart package retains support for GameCube titles - mind boggling stuff from Nintendo perhaps?

So remember if you want Gamecube, grab Mario Kart, if you want newer improved technology (hehe), grab Super Mario Bros.

How is this a loophole? It's just Nintendo selling off left over stock of Wii's with Gamecube support still built in. When you say 'loophole' I expect it to be a hack on the new console to allow Gamecube games to run.

This is the first time I'm hearing of the Wii losing GC functionality. WHAT THE HELL NINTENDO!!!

It's not like you're cutting the price or anything! The Wii is already dirt-cheap to make, so why make it cheaper if it means lost functionality? This is bull.

the new wii family console has dropped its gamecube support because its built on the wii bc chips for the wii u, its out in europe but wasnt supposed to be coming to the usa, its designed to be much cheaper so expect it to sell for $99/£99/€99 by the xmas shopping season.

remember the wii u has no gc support (although i'd bet it will have gc on its virtual console) so this is just getting people ready, on the bright side nintendo is the last company to drop last gen bc, although the 360 still has some legacy support its no longer updated.

No loophole at all.
It was known that the console will sell along side the regular console back when it was announced.
It's just like how they're still going to produce the PSP 3000 after the cheapo version is out.
It's also like how they're still producing the DSi when the 3DS is out.
Hell, they're still selling DS lites ffs.

Not news, not important.
