Hard handiwork of developers have proven 'Siri' can infact run on other older handsets not just iPhone4S

Apple of course most likely will never release Siri, the new voice recognition system for older models, as this is one big new feature driving up the sales of the new iPhone4S, now sold-out everywhere

It is not perfect, but developers Steve Troughtton-Smith and 9 to 5 Mac, have made an unofficial port of the new Siri, Voice Recognition system to allow it run on the iPhone4, instead of the flagship new iPhone 4S that is Apple new shiny baby.

Currently it is capable of loading the Siri interface and controls; however, since Apple's server-side processes are integral to Siri's interaction with the iPhone hardware, right now any spoken commands won't be followed.

There are also some significant speed issues, which are evident in the video demo below. Siri lacks the necessary iPhone 4 GPU driver since that wasn't present in the iPhone 4S's binary cache, and so the whole interface is a whole lot more sluggish than what you'd see on the iPhone 4S.

On the flip-side, however, with that GPU driver in place, it's entirely possible that the Siri system would work just as well on the iPhone 4′s A4 chip as it does on the iPhone 4S' A5.

Of course we all know why Apple is locking it down to the iPhone 4S, is of course to get more and more sales, since all updates to the iOS are (cough still for FREE), Apple has to gain more profit from hardware sales, plus the cell companies want to be able to continue to rope people in for longer and newer contracts by when grabbing the latest iPhone each time around.
