'The Steam Forums are temporarily offline for maintenance. Your patience is appreciated.' <-- That's the message greeting users who are stll trying to use the Steam forums which where recently hacked!

While Valve has yet to release an official statement on the downtime as of this writing, a Reddit user captured the screenshot above of the forums shortly before they were taken down showing that they were apparently hacked.

"Ever wanted to dominate the servers you play on with guaranteed results, but you were too afraid to cheat because of ban risks?" reads a message left on the forums' frontpage by hackers. It goes on to recommend users visit a website where they can download hacks and other tools to cheat at playing games.

In addition, some gamers reported the receipt of spam emails promoting fkn0wned, supposedly from Steampowered.com. This would imply that hackers may have got their hands on email addresses or at least accessed a way to send messages via the Steampowered board, but this remains unclear.

Of course 'gamers' are getting a little concerned as it been almost 48 hours since the 'hack' first appeared and the forums went offline, and still they are suspended and no official word from Valve on the incident, and many of our readers here remember the week long delay when PSN got 'hacked' and the month of downtime, so you can understand why so many 'gamers' are now worried about their PC steam accounts as 'human' nature as it is, people have a habit of using the same password on many sites or email accounts.

seems like they finally admitted the second hack got their account details etc (or at least possibly) they are sending out emails to let people know that all of their almost 35 million accounts could have been compromised.
