JXD releases S7100 Android-based gaming tablet, manages to steal from everyone

With the 'PS Vita' on the market, the Chinese cloners have been trying to grab some of that marketplace where people what 'portable high-quality gaming'.

The first was the Yinlips G18, which looks like the 'PS Vita' design, but runs Android 2.2 and much slower chipset.

The second is now JXD the S7100 model, which basically steals everyone's ideas and merges them into one:

A fairly conspicuous 7-inch Android-powered gaming tablet marketed towards playing old-school arcade games.

The device features a D-pad, face buttons, an 800 x 480 capacitive touchsceen, ARM Cortex A9 CPU, Mali 400 GPU, 512MB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 0.3 megapixel front camera, 2.0 megapixel rear camera and HDMI-out.

A video trailer shows the unit playing a variety of touchscreen games and classic ROMs including Metal Slug, Mario Kart 64, Angry Birds, Plants Vs. Zombies and Fruit Ninja HD.

And to top it all off, they copied the actual PlayStation button layout complete with the familiar four shapes, but you can't beat the price only $140! :)

Pff, the Vita has much more expensive stuff inside.

But I love these Android based handhelds! I wish Samsung would make Samsung Galaxy gaming phone :)

If anything, this thing copies the Wii U (colour and style) and the white PSP (3000?) D-Pad.
I'm not liking the other buttons, but it aint half bad. The price gives me hope on the Wii U's
controller being a bit reasonable in price when it comes out.

Well have to say more and more of these tablets are coming out with Android on them, and even the mid range stuff are pretty good for the money. All can play emulators, but this with bottons and stick on it is even better!! Im sure this will be a big step back for the PSP Vita, yes the graphics are better but who cares, these tablets are half the price and better value.

I gotta say: As annoyed as I am with it as a phone, I absolutely LOVE gaming on my Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY 4G (R800at)! When I play Super Mario 64 on Mupen 64, I get analog stick support on the Xperia PLAY's touchpad area and I am not forced to play a 4:3 game in stretched/squashed widescreen. The default AT&T-customized Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread firmware ROM was full of bloat and almost unuseable but with official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich support on the way and plenty of official and unofficial ROMs in the mean time, I can't complain (I'm running rooted Sony Ericcson R800a Generic North-American Android 2.3.4 FW).

Looks like Sony had this beat before it even existed. IIRC, the Sony tablets are also Playstation Certified and can game using a PS3 DualShock 3. Note: I'm NOT a Sony/Playstation fan. I am simply a satisfied Xperia PLAY owner who is loving his new Android and classic Nintendo titles on the device more than on Nintendo's own devices. I chose to 100% complete Yoshi's Island (again) with SNES 9x EX on my phone instead of the 3DS Ambasador Program GBA version. I do enjoy the GBA version's new levels but I prefer the SNES version's better audio and graphics.
