In a blow to Windows Phone 7, Microsoft will soon build apps that let iOS and Android users play its wildly popular Xbox Live games, a developer familiar with Microsoft's plans confirmed today.

"Xbox is a client of ours. There's no way they'll be ignoring those other mobile platforms," the developer told Business Insider.

The first reports are related to a recent 'job posting' that indicates basically Microsoft plans for Xbox Live games on Android and iOS:

"As the team inside IEB (Interactive Entertainment Business) dedicated to mobile experiences, we work closely with console software team and Xbox LIVE services team to bring the latest and greatest gaming and entertainment experience to mobile platforms including Windows Phone, iOS and other mobile platforms."

You think Microsoft would try to be only pushing this 'killer app' for their own 'Windows Phone 7', but if they don't quickly spread it out to iOS and Android they would be leaving a very large hole in the marketplace for 'OnLive' and Sony PSN to step in, and take over!

I agree, this is where its tough being a hardware and a software company, as a software company you want your software on what ever is the most popular hardware in order to sell the most units. As a hardware company you want all those software on your machine to push sales.

In this case though it makes complete sense since the Windows 7 phones have not sold very well and MS isn't against making money.

As a WP7 user, I can't say I'm THAT surprised the Exclusive titles on the list aren't that great to begin with, so getting to the widest range possible is a good idea, I guess. If this is talking about the xbox companion app, though, this has been in the works for quite some time. As far as I remember they said that XBLC was on a timed release for WP7 and would be free and iOS and Android would come later, though they later reneged and released it for iOS at the same time, I think....either way this isn't surprising.
