Uploaded.to blocks all US traffic and Filesonic shuts down file-sharing capabilities
http://www.maxconsole.com/maxconsole/contents/RKLS000000956/icon_xl.jpg
Others big sites have also announced major changes to their TOS and PAYMENT systems
The takedown of MEGAUPLOAD has caused a tidal wave across the globe, as smaller sites run for cover, and start hiring lawyers bracing for the worse.
Filesonic.com idea to protect themselves is to no longer allow 'shared' access to files uploaded, for 'your eyes only' basically.
Uploaded.to idea is to geo-block all USA traffic, and possibly other countries that may help or act like the USA in their laws.
WHO'S NEXT ? -- Good question, but it looks like the other big file-sharing sites don't want to become the next 'Kim DotCom'.

Gonna be the start of a big new trend, where US users are blocked from many websites outside their own borders for fear of the countries stupid lawmakers and politicians that are owned by corporations.
I think the rest of us are already quite used to that though...being blocked from alot of US content because we're outside their borders.
Rome? Rome...

Thank god for Thepiratebay.org & demonoid.me, it looks as though that is what it is going to be coming to. So be it I have seen those sites go through a hell of a lot of $hit and both are still standing!

Did the hosters of these sites even READ the details of the raid executed on Kim Dotcom?
FBI helicopters don't just swarm in on your compound to take your "MAFIA" license-plated luxury cars and automatic firearms, while you lockdown your perimeter and retreat into a barricaded saferoom with your loaded shotgun in hand because you host pirated material.
This guy was clearly involved in something other than just simple filesharing webhosting.

So why is his website down? It IS a limited company. If chunpangchao pinpingcom was the one under scrutiny how would it effect his LIMITED company?

i think you miss the point, the fbi got ANOTHER COUNTRY to steam in and arrest this guy, even though neither he nor his company were based or citizens of the united states, megaupload was a hk based company and the victims of this arrest were in new zealand and the european union and now the american government is attempting to get these people extradited to the usa where they will face longer jail terms than a murderer or child rapist.
the fact that american copyright law seems to trump international law and that copyrights are seen as more important than human rights is what worries these other sites, not the fact that there may have been other wrongdoing.
i think uploaded.to have the right idea in just blocking american access to the site, that leaves it up to the american citizens to elect less corrupt politicians who will fix their laws, after all many american sites already block content to the rest of the world.

Ahhhh....FINALLY someone grasps what exactly has happened here. The ramifications of this host6 closing are far reaching than most understand. SOPA may not have passed, but most certainly something else has slipped through the cracks which allows american idiocy the right to exercise this form of clout.
If this is any indication, the whole of the internet and how things are shared is at stake. The worst bit is, none of us can do anything about it, and what we CAN do, most of us are not willing to. (Such as boycotting purchasing legit media altogether but who wants to do that?).
The ONLY and ONLY way for companies of this sort to avoid this type of action is to isolate america. Which is just fine by me as a wall around that country would not go unwelcome. I think most hosts will be based OUT of america and will deny access TO america, and you know what? its perfectly fine that way.

Yeah that's fine and dandy, but when you're subverting their blockage...they have this nice little thing called "Plausible Deniability" and you were normally not welcome and allowed access to their server/website. You used a means of disguising your true location/identity to gain access to something you otherwise would not have had access to.
It's kinda like the police entering your house without a warrant...anything they take is inadmissible in court, since they were not supposed to be there in the first place. Best analogy I could think of...

No need to worry, there are lots of megaupload alternatives out there. I've spent some time to research and compile this list. Megaupload was one of the best file hosting sites, fast speeds, unlimited downloads during happy hours, large storage limits, etc. I lost a lot of files including school and work documents. I made a list of real alternatives to megaupload. I only listed sites with minimal restrictions for downloading, large storage limits, and high popularity/reliability. The Alexa rank is an indicator of how popular a site is, I included it to distinguish the popular/reliable sites from new unproven file hosting sites.
http://jumbofiles.com
Benefits: 500GB storage space, unlimited parallel downloads, can resume broken downloads, download accelerator support
Restrictions: 1GB file size limit
Other positives: No CAPTCHA, no timer, remote http upload, FTP upload
Alexa rank: (4837) friend introduced me to this site last month, great features, still using them today.
http://fileflyer.com
Benefits: Unlimited storage space
Restrictions: 2GB file size, no file manager, only 1 download at a time (no parallel downloading)
Other positives: No CAPTCHA, no timer
Alexa rank: (22284) not as popular as the other sites here but they are seemingly owned by the makers of the popular Download Accelerator Plus.
http://2shared.com
Benefits: Unlimited parallel downloads, can resume broken downloads, download accelerator support
Restrictions: 1GB file size limit, no file manager
Other positives: No CAPTCHA, no timer, can search files
Alexa rank: (3307) I love being able to search the files at this site and you can "watch" what files are being downloaded.
http://zshare.net
Benefits: Unlimited storage space
Restrictions: 1GB file size limit, 50 seconds timer, only 1 download at a time, download accelerator support
Other positives: No CAPTCHA, no timer
Alexa rank: (1937) one of the oldest file hosting sites online since 2005, still using them today.
http://ifile.it
Benefits: Unlimited storage space, up to 2 parallel downloads, can resume broken downloads
Restrictions: 300MB file size limit, have to enter ReCAPTCHA to download
Other positives: No timer
Alexa rank: (2576) got a nice file manager, I don't use them that much now after they started requiring ReCAPTCHA to download files.
http://sendspace.com
Benefits: Unlimited storage space
Restrictions: 500MB file size limit, only 1 download at a time
Other positives: No CAPTCHA, no timer
Alexa rank: (1385) downloads are limited and slow but they have Android and iPhone apps available for their site.
http://mediafire.com
Benefits: Unlimited storage space, unlimited parallel downloads, can resume broken downloads, download accelerator support
Restrictions: 200MB file size limit
Other positives: Fast downloads, I can max out my 6mbps DSL!
Alexa rank: (66) the next biggest file hosting site after megaupload, very popular and trusted by many users around the world, I upload to here regularly.
If you know of any other file hosting site with below 5000 Alexa ranking, minimal download restrictions, and large storage space, let me know so I can update this list. Real alternatives and free user friendly sites only, not sites like rapidshare with 5 minute timers and hours of wait time between downloads.
