This is the first major Vita update, as it adds 'video recording' to the camera, and a fully feature set 'map app' to use the GPS, along with online network changes from PSN to SEN
Sony has a substantial update for PlayStation Vita planned on February 8th, which is right before the system’s Western launch, and must likely will the firmware that will be shipping on the launch models in North America and Europe regions when it launches on February 22th.
The v1.6 firmware is major one, as it improves the camera functions to add 'video recording', and finally the GPS will have a 'map app'.
Vita users will be able to use the map app to ask for directions and see where they are in the world using the system’s GPS sensor. The map app also can show satellite images and has a bookmark feature to save locations.
Minor changes are also planned by Sony like changing the Home button so it glows blue when your system is plugged into an outlet, and of course the online network name changes from PSN to SEN.
No information available let from 'homebrew' developers if this update will include 'security' fixes to finally block the PSP emulator exploits that have been discovered since the launch of PS Vita in Japan and were still available on the current v1.52 firmware.
