This new Samsung Smartphone has a projector and, like their other Galaxy devices, it's also very powerful. The phone was announced at the MWC 2012.

At this year Mobile World Congress, Samsung announced a new variant from their Galaxy Smartphone series.
Called Samsung GALAXY Beam, this one is a projector-equipped phone.

GALAXY Beam lets users spontaneously share photos, videos or other digital media with family or friends by beaming content stored on the device directly onto walls, ceilings or improvised flat surfaces, so that everyone can share the fun without the need to huddle around smartphone or pad-sized screens. GALAXY Beam’s ultra-bright 15 lumens projector allows users to freely share life’s memorable moments instantly and in crisp clarity, even in outdoor environments.

Pretty interesting right? Well, the phone is also very powerful, just like the other ones from the Galaxy series.

Despite featuring a full built-in projector, the GALAXY Beam does not compromise on style or portability, measuring just 12.5mm thick and featuring an elegant, ergonomic design. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is powered by an impressive 1.0GHz dual-core processor, ensuring great versatility and a highly responsive user interface. An impressive 8GB of internal memory allows ample multimedia storage without compromises, and a powerful 2000 mAh battery ensures greater display power and content freedom.

It also has a 5MP AF camera.

combined with somthing like MoboPlayer (or any other video player app that supports divx, xvid, mkv etc) and a little set of speakers, this could be actually a decent feature if the screen it produces is big and clear enough, even better if it has some sort of pass through support. I may give this a try if it sees the lighy of day, as my cotract is due for renewal in december, so chances are if it is released it will be out by then, unless this is one of the usuall feature packed japanese only phones.

Shame they don't mention the projector resolution tho, I assume it would be 800x480 like the screen which if it is, it perfectly usefull for DVD rips, would need to be plugged in tho as I am betting you would get a flat battery in next to no time. Also no mention onthe life of the bulb, I know home projectors are a pain when it comes to bulb life especially given how much they cost, so hopefully they found away around this with somthing like those super bright LED's.

most projector phones have a battery life of around 2 hours at most, they also get pretty damned hot so once used require a cool down period before you can pocket them.

oh and these pico projectors do use led's with a life of around 10,000 hours so its not likely that you'll need to replace the bulb in the usable lifetime of the phone.

Is there an ap that will allow me to use the projector as a weapon?

I mean like a solid white strobe screen that flashes at what ever frequency causes people to vomit?

*rubs hands together cackling maniacally*

Aye, I was suspecting it may be like the optoma pocket projector (sounds rude, and reminds me of the toys a few years back that were planes on rings, unfortunatley called Ring Raiders, and for that matter Woody the manually operated toy and Buzz the battery powered one definetly couldn't have been an innocent coincidence). I have been tempted to get one of those for a while but needing to have a netbook at least with it kind of put me off, so oneof these, a 64GB microSD card and Moboplayer could be ideal for those boring days at the office, at the inlaws etc. Infact I wonder if the missus would shave the back of her head, as I can think of another use for it :)
