Tim Cook confirms it in an email

The Apple CEO responded to an Italian customer email stating that they are planning to release Italian support in Siri this year

Pay attention to this new. It appears that Apple is planning to release more languages support for the popular digital assistant Siri this year. One Italian customer sent Tim Cook and email asking why Apple didn't like Italian language and why it has not been including before in Siri. Tim responded that they do love Italian and Siri will recognize commands in that language this year. This may mean that more languages are planning to get Siri support. We doubt that Apple pretends to release just one language pack for Siri in 2012 even they did it recently with Japanese support in iOS 5.1.

Here is the translated correspondence:

Dear Tim,

I wonder why you do not like Italy, I think we are good customers for you but do not relish this.

Watch this , we are the second country in Europe (we are behind all’UK!)
In particular:
1) Siri is not yet been released in Italian (rather strange after 6 months)
2) We are no longer in the group of “first day” of a product launch iPhone 4 (there are some nations that are not at our level)

Thanks

Mike

Tim Cook's answer:

Michele,

I love Italy.

We will support Italian in SIRI this year.

Tim

I think they are having trouble getting Siri to read the camera to interpret the hand gestures Italians use to communicate... heheheh just kidding :)

But it is nice to know that they will add all these languages eventually. Maybe they have already done this but can Siri vocally translate languages?

What I mean is that can Siri translate English to Italian when it gets supported?

That would be cool, "Siri tell this jerk in Italian that Mario is the best plumber!!!" hehehehe
