It looks like a burned DVD-R.

If you open up your movie case, don't get surprised by its design. And, of course, you shouldn't worry, as you didn't get a pirate copy.

This is a very cool move by Sony. The official 'Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' disc art design for the DVD, makes it appear to be a pirate copy:

Upon opening the case, librarians and patrons will find what looks to be a burned DVD-R with the movie’s title scrawled across it with a marker, as seen below:

If you have ordered The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on DVD, rest assured that you did not receive a bootleg copy of the film. This is the authentic DVD direct from Sony Pictures. Sony designed the DVD and its packaging to reflect the theme of the movie and its popular hacker protagonist, Lisbeth Salander.

See it by yourself (bigger pic):

Very creative!

SSSUUUUURRREEE it's legit. lol

Wow I didn't know that Sony was cool with piracy. After all its good enough to be used as a marketing tool, which is exactly what pirates have been saying for years. Test then buy. lol

White.... a clear sign of cheapness. Saving on coloured toner. lol

System of a Down did that 10 years ago. They even called the album 'Steal this Album'...

Yep, that was 'music' now it's the 'movie' turn to use it as marketting ploy.

Funny thing, most real 'pirates' no longer use 'black ink hand-writing on their discs'

03-23-2012, 11:03 AM
So what do they use? Red pens? lol

03-23-2012, 11:25 AM
Certain releses of wb movies come on real dvd-r's.

03-23-2012, 01:38 PM

03-23-2012, 02:25 PM
So wait, sony think piracy is cool? Try telling that to their PS3 department :p

03-23-2012, 03:56 PM

lol you guys "piracy piracy piracy", I'm sure it has a better meaning than that?
I remember the Borat dvd did a similar thing. and I believe they did it on that to make it feel kinda crappy and homemade.

You guys reckon maybe that's what they were trying to do here? Make it seem kind of like a homemade diary movie or something?
I don't even know what this movie, 'Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' is about. So I got no clue.

One of the reasons of doing this marketting stunt, is because this movie became very famous because of 'pirates' it was one of those good movies not originally made into english but people wanted to watch it, and finally hollywood remade it for the NA market and put it on the market, but by then all those that deal with pirates had since the movie in its original form and lang.

So its a 'inside joke' as for sure it was not for the pirates the movies would not have as large of a folllowing that caused hollywood to decided to redo them for the NA market.

No Black disc?

And speaking of Borat:

Get it right: The theme from Borat isn't the Kazakh anthem

Medal winner forced to listen to spoof song
Games organisers apologise for the mix-up
They also got the Serbian anthem wrong

Borat mix-up

Maria Dmitrienko has to listen to a song praising Kazakhstan for having the cleanest prostitutes in the region.

KAZAKHSTAN has demanded an apology from Kuwait after a spoof national anthem from Borat was played at a medal ceremony for its national shooting team.

The blunder took place as Maria Dmitrienko stood on top of the podium to celebrate her gold medal performance at the 10th Arab Shooting Championship in Kuwait.

But instead of the Kazakh national anthem, Dmitrienko had to listen to the song used in Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

Footage of Thursday's original ceremony posted on YouTube shows Dmitrienko listening to the anthem without emotion and finally smiling as it ends.

Coach Anvar Yunusmetov told Kazakh news agency Tengrinews that the tournament's organisers had also got the Serbian national anthem wrong.

"Then Maria Dmitrienko's turn came," he said. "She got up on to the pedestal and they played a completely different anthem, offensive to Kazakhstan."

The spoof song praises Kazakhstan for its superior potassium exports and for having the cleanest prostitutes in the region.

The film, made by British comic Sacha Baron Cohen, portrayed the country as a socially and industrially backward nation with racist and homophobic undertones.

The Kazakh Government threatened to sue Baron Cohen in 2006 for damages, and the film's website was taken down. Such is the film's content, it is banned in the Arab world.

Red-faced organisers in Kuwait apologised for the embarrassing oversight before restaging the medal ceremony, this time with the correct version of the Kazakhstan anthem.

Kazakhstan's foreign office told local media that they were investigating the incident to avoid any similar errors in the future.

Sony is so broke they can't afford to press real disks now?

I knew things where bad but this is ridiculous...

(joking in case anyone takes it too serious.)

03-24-2012, 01:07 PM
No Black disc?

And speaking of Borat:

Not sure if I am having the proper reaction but that mix up made me laugh my ass off... I mean I know at the time it was probably the worst thing ever for that poor lady who just won a gold medal, but for me after the fact it was comedy gold! Thank you!

Unique my foot.

An official (Romanian) rap album from 2007. A "unique" idea which I'm sure dates back to floppy disks and cassette tapes.

+1 on System of a Down - Steal This Album.
