They looked 'Way Better'

An user called 'Squirrel Monkey' made some amazing videos representing some 'popular' franchises from today as old PC games.

A YouTube user called Squirrel Monkey has posted a few amazing videos showing how today popular games like Angry Birds and Drawsome would look like being old PC games from the 80's.

Let's pretend, just for a moment, that mobile juggernaut Angry Birds and social darling Draw Something weren't products of the 21st century, but the 20th. That they weren't delivered wirelessly, but on floppy disks.

This is what they'd look like. I doubt I'm alone in thinking they look better.

He also made videos showing how Facebook, Twitter and Google would look like back in the 80's/90's.

The videos are just awesome. Watch them below!

If Angry Birds were an 80s home computer game:

If Facebook were invented in the 90s:

Just watching this makes me feel nostalgic for the old Sinclair Z80. Still amazes me that that little computer was only as big as one of todays netbooks and that was best part of 30 years ago.

EDIT:

If Facebook, Twitter, etc existed back then with those kinds of GUIs, they would be dead within a couple months.

Its lame/crude interfaces which made technology leap from NERDY to COOL.

I'm sorry but DOS based interfaces just look incredibly crappy.

Think of it this way.... we make fun of the clothes/hairstyles people wore in the 80/90s for looking for crappy/nerdy/lame.... its the same with GUIs.

really?

like many people i still use a modern version of a dos based interface running over windows xp its called total commander formally windows commander, formally norton commander, it does everything i need from windows but in a nice easy to use dos styled enviroment.

what has changed is the colour palate and the resolution so those old interfaces would be about as good as they could get back then.

back then this would be all there was and for the time it would be impressive, people wouldn't expect more especially when all they would have seen of PC's in work would have been mostly mono screen text for the most part. You are basing your opinions on todays standards and not those of the 90's, I would consider the likes of facebook/twitter UI to be crappy now, with the only difference over these are the colour/res and internet speed, so other than looking less pretty by todays standards but above average by early 90's standards there is nothing really different in their application.

Stuff like Facebook was around back in the day, not as big because not everyone could afford a computer, dial-up phone charges, and modems, but they exist'ed social networks, with text based games, people would waste every night on logging in and seeing what is happening.

Yep they died out when technology changed, and some sites keep changing trying to keep up, with cute GUI's of the day, remember AOI with that 'You Got Mail'.

Another 10 years from now, our kids will be laughing at us for have 'FaceBook' account. -- Things are changing rapidly, and unless they learn to change with it, they will be gone into past nerdy history also.

You can't deny that in the 80/90s computers and technology had a reputation for being nerdy (in the negative sense). People which used computers use to be considered losers by most cool people.

All that has changed today and computers and tech are COOL and HIP...... but why is that? Why the 180 change in perception?

I bet you it has a lot to do with pretty interfaces/physical casings and making technology less crude for the average user.

Apple plays on peoples desire for pretty esthetics... and less so on technical specs for the technologically ignorant. Some of these people buy tech only because they think its pretty.

I for one am not a fan of Apple.... but can say with confidence that I'm happy those ugly interfaces are gone out of the mainstram.... just like those ugly grey typical 90s PC casings and CRT monitors.

i love my beige and black box and i dont know what i'll do when my crt dies at least until i can get a reasonably priced 32" oled screen to replace it, sorry but led / lcd / plasma just dont do the job like a decent big hd crt.
