Dan Benjamin confirms that Apple has at least one 7.85 iPad and are testing on it.

In a recent podcast interview to Dan Benjamin by DaringFireballs's John Gruber,he informed that Apple was doing some test/research with a prototype of a smaller iPad with 7.85 inch screensize and 1024x768 resolution.

Here is what he said:

Well, I donít know. What I do know is that they have one in the labÖa 7.85 inch iPad that runs at 1024◊768Ö itís just like the 9.7" iPad shrunk down a little bit. Apps wouldn't need to be recompiled or redesigned to work optimally on it. It's just the iPad smaller

So this only confirms that Apple is testing this iPad but doesn't mean that they are releasing it to public anytime soon. Companies like Apple are continuously investigating on new products or features that are not always accepted to become a viable product.

Wow this is a new move from Apple.... releasing downgraded products.

I bet the new smaller iPad will cost more than the current bigger one... simply for price skimming the iSheep.
