The Pebble wristwatch, conceived by Eric Migicovsky, is a $115 device with an e-paper face, which is able to show different watchfaces, run sports and fitness apps and show notifications from your phone (such as new emails).

This one is capable to connect to iPhone and Android smartphones using Bluetooth, alerting you with a silent vibration to incoming calls, emails and messages.

The project started on Kickstarter, and has already collected almost 9 million USD, from an initial $100,000 goal.

"We had a factory in San Jose ready to make about 1,000 Pebbles if we were able to raise the initial funding," Migicovsky told the Guardian. "Right now we've got 56,000 who have pledged money. People have ordered anywhere between two and 100 each. In all, we're going to make more than 67,000."

It has been an astonishing ride. The idea is that the Pebble watch will be able to run specific apps: among the plans are one for runners, another for cyclists, another that would show your email inbox or control your iPhone, all while being waterproof.

Check out the video below, which shows a real, working prototype. There's not release date yet, but there are still 11 days left for the Kickstarter project to finish, so be sure to check it out too, if you want more details.

What I don't understand with all that money why not design real useful, I mean this device 'Pebble' still needs a Android or iPhone to do the actual work, all it is a bluetooth screen, with many some custom apps.

I mean I can order one of these babies from china, and this is just one of hundreds of designs and it is fully function phone with two SIM slots, Wifi internet access, mp3/mp4, touch screen (1.5"), with even MSN all coded on a java engine, even has an FM radio and Camera inside it, no need for other devices.

My thoughts exactly.

This device needs way more functionality like you mentioned.

A weather feature would be nice too.
