It's optional, but be warned it blocks the VHBL exploit!

Sony has released the firmware update 1.69 for Playstation Vita.

A new PS Vita firmware update is already available to download. This new update v 1.69 is optional and it comes with some minor system software updates.

According to the PlayStation Blog:

…we wanted to let you know that a minor system software update will be released tonight that improves software stability. The update (v. 1.69) is completely optional, but we did want to give everyone a heads up that it was coming.

The size of this new update is 97 mb, for a firmware that does 'nothing' on the surface it is big, so what is 'under the hood' and DashHacks has the answer it blocks the 'Super Collapse 3' exploit used by the VHBL releases:

According to DashHacks:

Going past the empty changelog, it was found that the firmware does in fact patch the exploit found in Super Collapse 3.

This takes care of the VHBL release by patching it firmware side.

Not to worry though, Wololo blogged a few days ago about another exploit for a new game, that VHBL is already ported to.

However, a release to be determined at this point.

So there you have it, if you're legit PS Vita owner, update away, if you're using VHBL or planning to do so in the future, DON'T update yet!
