Seems that a former Acclaim employee sent the game to Nintendo Player.
Game's creator, Mark Turmell, said its 'legit', but the voice actor said its not...

It looks like 'a salty' version of the original NBA Jam for the SNES has surfaced after 20 years.

Apparently, the blog Nintendo Player received an anonymous package from a former Acclaim Entertainment employee that contained the prototype cartridge dubbed "NBA Jam XXX," which is a "joke version" of the SNES game made only for the office's ears.

It replaces famous phrases like “Boom-Shakalaka” with much more vulgar versions...

“Due to the memory constraints of the 16-bit system, the long strands of voice samples from the classic arcade game had to be modified to fit an [SNES] cartridge. Tim Kitzrow, NBA Jam‘s memorable voice-over announcer, was called back into the studio to shorten his calls.

During one of these recording sessions, a number of outtakes were saved as a joke, which served as the basis for a special, profanity-filled, in-house-only game–one that, if word ever got out about its existence, could have severely jeopardized Acclaim’s relationship with the NBA league and completely shut down NBA Jam‘s development for good.”

Mark Turmell, the game's creator -and who now works for Zynga-, kinda confirmed the game is 'legit', as he remembers some 'off-color' recordings:

He said through a conversation with Side Mission on Facebook that he saw the video the other day and recalled doing some similar audio recordings with voice actor Tim Kitzrow during the development of the arcade game.

"I can confirm that in the early days we did record tons of off-color stuff," Turmell said.

Lines like "Get that **** out of here" and "He's on ******* fire" were recorded when they worked on the arcade version of the game for Midway. Turmell said they actually tried to put the "Get that **** out of here" line into the final version with a "bleep" sound over the offending word, but the NBA objected and it was removed.

None of the other salty lines made it in the game, but Turmell said there were recordings and Acclaim Entertainment, the studio that worked on the SNES version, had access to all of their arcade audio archives. He said he wasn't present during Acclaim's recording sessions with Kitzrow.

"We all laughed at the various lines, so it'd be no surprise if they made a custom EPROM version," Turmell said. "Not ROM though, because that would have been manufactured."

He does, however, have an opinion on the video's authenticity.

"I believe it's legit," Turmell said.

However, voice actor Tim Kitzrow said "he doesn't remember" recording any of the dialogue shown in the game's video...

"Really don't have any recollection of anything like that ever existing…there are times when the hour is late in the studio that we kid around and yes as in any recording studio or on any job for that matter, I'm sure there were some off color moments but as far as an 'R' rated game ever existing I highly doubt it…sounds like a hack job of some sorts to me."
