After alot of delays, the wait is well worth it, and now the Cobra ODE is finally ready, and it unlocks even more things on your consoles, including full usage of 'homebrew' on the very latest of PS3!

Well, lots of good news today for those with 4K Slims or other PS3 consoles that have been 'unbreakable' before, as finally the Cobra ODE unit is now in production, and will be shipping out soon to resellers worldwide, and on top of that bit of good news, is even more amazing news as the Cobra development team has been busy during all the delays and have greatly improved their 'optical drive emulator', not only does it work on almost all PS3 consoles now, it can even unlock your PS3 for 'homebrew', meaning it does alot more then just 'backup' games!

Here is their official PR with all the amazing, juicy details for the New & Improved Cobra ODE:

Quote:

 The wait is over!

After a few months of additional research and development we are proud to announce that the Cobra ODE has been greatly enhanced, making the experience both easier and richer than before. In essence we spent the additional time from time of announcement and to ensure that we can deliver a far superior product.

We have also added homebrew support as well as refinements to the hardware providing a much improved, quicker and easier installation method for 2K5, 3K and 4K users...

Cobra ODE users can now run ISO's and homebrew apps from any PS3***, including previously "unbreakable" 2k5, 3k and 4k models! We have now removed the external UI commander since it is no longer necessary. Now you can browse and launch all homebrew apps/games and PS3 ISO's from the XMB.

Once again, yes, by using with the Cobra ODE you can browse and launch homebrew apps/games and PS3 ISO's from the XMB via the Cobra ODE manager...

The device is easy to install, use and upgrade too!

Simply, Cobra ODE has re-invented the scene, breaking down the barriers once thought to be impenetrable...

The device offers PS3 ISO's, homebrew apps and games, even on the latest 2k5, 3K and 4K systems and is fast and powerful enough to provide plenty of room for expansion of features in the future.....

Production will now commence and stocks will follow to resellers shortly....
Even tho RetroArch runs great, it is always best to have more options when wanting to play your old-school retro games, and it is good to finally see someone take the time to port the PC MAME over to the PS3 system, and scene developer Ole has done just that:
Condorstrike, a well-known homebrew developer, has released a homebrew game for the PS3 named Pointman: The Akkadian Wars, which is released as a "proof-of-concept" due to the developer having to deal with real-life events, which is now the case for most of the scene developers.
HI GUYS, IT'S BEEN HARD FINDING TIME FOR THE PS3 WITH SO MUCH GOING ON AT WORK AND HOME, THAT'S THE REASON I DECIDED TO RELEASE THE POINTMAN BETA AS A (POC). WISH I HAD MORE TIME TO COMPLETE IT AND POLISH IT, ANOTHER REASON IS THAT THE PS4 IS AROUND THE CORNER, AND I'M ALSO MAKING A PC GAME.

Pointman: the Akkadian Wars - The game is a throwback to 80′s and 90′s styling and music, all of it was built for you guys as a proof of concept that with some time and creativity cool things can be accomplished. This game will run in CFWs 3.55 and 4.xx. There will be bugs! Powerups are mostly disabled, and there's a glitch on some textures loading, but it's rare. I do a small homage to the scene in the credits, but you'll have to finish the level first, good luck with that...lol, forget about HARD mode, even I can't finish it, so use EASY.If you let the MAIN MENU run, you'll get to see the story, 80′s style.

Basically, avoid the Aliens and drive the ship or mech until you've covered the map sectors, scan artifacts if possible, and grab powerups, but then again, they're disabled.

BwE, also known as betterwayelectronics, has released another update to his NOR Validator application which addresses a bug and now includes the EID4 validation check. Also, he has released a NAND flash-based version of his application called the BwE NAND Validator, which obviously checks the validity/status of a NAND flash dump, just like the NOR Validator does for NOR flash dumps.

Be warned that these validation tools may not be 100% accurate due to the research/knowledge/application-based limitations, and thus in extreme/serious situations, such as performing a console firmware downgrade, it is advisory to check your flash dumps on a per-byte basis via a hex editor, or seek professional assistance.
BwE NOR Validator Changelog:
1.31 - 27/05/2013 : added eid4 + fixed bug in entropy (note: possibly final version, unless adding firmware revisions/new consoles)

BwE NAND Validator Release Notes:

Created/Started by BwE on the 3rd March 2013 (Because I was pressured to).

Greetz/Credit: EussNL, Judges, No0bZiLLa, Rogero, Rebug, deank, 3absiso, AFP, SCE & PS3 Dev Wiki (+ Its Contributers).

This all in one validator/patcher will patch for 3.55 and will output the results of 2799+ validations via HTML.

How?
1 - Place your .bin/s in the same folder as the validator.
2 - Run the validator and press Start.
3 - A console will appear asking you to select your dump (if you have more than one in the folder).
4 - Make your selection and or select if you watch to patch it.
5 - Wait patiently.
6 - Press Enter at the end to launch the output.

Explanation:
After selecting your dump and choosing which patch you want it will begin to process the validation. Once it is finished it will give you a brief count of the results, after this you simply press enter to exit.
The program will then open a html output illustrating everything that has been validated. Scroll through or use the menu at the top and read each section.

If a validation says 'warning' or 'danger' investigate it yourself manually using a hex editor, or contact somebody knowledgeable. Only corruption messages will show you the exact offset to look at, everything else won't so this is where you have to read/learn about it on the ps3devwiki.

Some validations will tell you that you need to patch it (e.g. ROS0 / ROS1 errors or warnings), if this is the case then do so (don't forget to rename the patched dump) and re-validate the patched dump (you can move the original unpatched dump to make sure it is checking the patched one).

If your dump has any 'danger' messages in the per console sections (find them in the menu) then there is a good chance its completely ruined and unfixable. Also, if your dump has a large amount of 'danger' messages then there is a serious issue - bad wiring can be discovered if you have any repetition in the dump.

As this is the first release, give extra care to each alert and use at your own risk! This program will only as good as the NOR validator after tedious updates

Report any bugs or issues to bwe@betterwayelectronics.com or directly to BwE @ irc.efnet.org #ps3downgrade or irc.ps3sanctuary.com #ps3hax

Give credit if you are using this for other people!

Warning:
Using this program is NOT a 100% way of validating your dumps (because nothing is), but it is a good way of quickly seeing if it is worth checking further. This program will NOT work with NAND and will not check anything other than what is stated. ALWAYS CHECK MANUALLY!

Use at own risk! Valid dumps may be invalid - Invalid dumps may be valid.

There are almost infinite variations of each dump! Have fun and good luck!

If you do not validate your flash, and for some reason(s) the dump is invalid/bad, and you are rewriting to flash, you have no way of restoring the console hence making a perma-brick (unrecoverable brick).

BwE NAND Validator Changelog:
1.00 - 27/05/2013 : first proper/public release (because I am lazy there will be no loader!)

Video released recently on Youtube, shows some weird hardware emulating the PS3 hard drive

Its called haxckODE, but from the video it seems to be hardware that replaces the PS3 internal hard drive, and is demoed on a newer 4K super-slim model, which shows it switching games via the 'themes'

Not much is known, the actual team is still unknown, but from video it looks like its from an Spanish-Speaking country.

The video goes thru alot of steps to make itself look like its not fake, from hooking up the wires to tv, to panning around showing you everything, to having the PS3 all stripped down so you can see there is no extra stuff hooked up that is missing from the camera view.

The video is long, 16 minutes, it first shows you it as a stock PS3 running v4.41 using its own internal HDD, then the 'hacker' replaces the internal HDD with a small blackboard that ends in USB port, and that inturn is connected to another port with usb, power, and another small PCBoard is then plugged into connector, of which then a old HDD is plugged into, which is start of the weird part, it is taped up, and only has power running to it, and a small red/black plug to the rest of the hardware, no direct IDE or SATA cable.

Then the PS3 is powered back up, and he demos how its still on v4.41, but for some reason the HDD is no longer an 40gb hdd, but only a 16gb drive, so its it running on a flash chip, not an external HDD? -- Then he demos how switching the 'theme' gives him a different game to play which he launchs and demos a bit. -- There is NO BLU-RAY DRIVE at all in this whole operation, its not even connected, so really calling it an ODE is wrong, its more of an 'theme' exploit to switch games that are stored on the HDD, are they repackaged PSN games? -- Why all this 'hardware' if its just an exploit? -- Why the small HDD size?

This video opens up alot of questions, of course the biggest one is it just a huge very well planned FAKE???
A few days ago, Team REBUG released the world's first CFW v4.41 PUP for Sony Playstation 3 consoles.

The only problem no current 'backup manager' worked with the new CFW, making upgrading a little worthless.

But now thanks to non-stop hard efforts by scene developer Dean, he has finally updated his world famous multiMAN app to support those that have upgraded their PS3 systems to the latest CFW v4.41 by Team REBUG.

Enjoy!
Q: WHAT IS D-REX EDITION?
A: Basically D-REX EDITION is REX EDITION that can be installed on a REAL DEX or coverted DEX PS3 System.

Q: WHAT IS LITE EDITION?
A: LITE EDITION is straight up CEX/RETAIL PS3 firmware it has NO DEX/DEBUG features.. AT ALL.

Q: WHY MAKE LITE EDITION?
A: Because at the moment 4.4x DEX firmware is not in the wild and we 100% refuse to make a version hybrid (using 4.30 DEX files in 4.41). There is approx. 70 files that need to replaced in CEX firmware for it to become a complete DEX firmware. About 40 of those files at least have been updated in the CEX firmware since 4.30 (if you look at 4.40 PS3PATCH.PUP) and more again with 4.40 and 4.41. With so many file changes it makes a nice recipe for instability..

NOTE: Remember to update to the latest Rebug Toolbox included in the LITE EDITION firmware.

Enjoy

Check out this trick to run PSP ISOs on an official PS3 firmware. For now, this is just a PoC, but it could open huge opportunities in the near future...

Scene member 'CapetLeVrai' has apparently found a way to run PSP ISO's on a non hacked PS3 running the latest official firmware 4.41.

For now, the trick requires both a hacked and a non hacked PS3, and you'll lose your OFW PS3′s content, however, it could open huge opportunities in the near future if the right people decide to look into that...

From wololo's blog:

Quote:

The basic idea is that after being installed on a CFW PS3, the iso can be transferred to the OFW PS3 through the integrated Data Transfer Utility, and will still run perfectly fine.

How it works

The PS3 allows you to copy data from one PS3 to another, usually when you want to transfer all your existing content in the case you bought a new PS3. This is done by connecting your two PS3s with an ethernet cable. What CapetLeVrai did, which sounds simple enough but appears to work, was to install the game on his hacked PS3, then copy the entire content of his hacked PS3 to the OFW one with the Data Transfer Utility, and the hacked iso then simply accepted to run on the OFW PS3.

Please note I haven’t confirmed myself because I’m beyond lazy and don’t want to lose my OFW PS3′s content (copying from your hacked PS3 to your unhacked PS3 will erase the previous content!) but from what I can tell this is legit.

Now, why would it be interesting if this requires a hacked PS3 in the first place? Well, it shows that once installed, the game seems to be able to bypass the standard DRM security checks on OFW that should prevent it from running in the first place. Or, rather, that the hack perfectly tricked the OFW PS3 into believing the game was legally acquired. Which means that if people had a way to run a package installer on official firmware PS3s, there could be a way to install and run psp isos (and, who knows, PSP homebrews) on the latest PS3 Official firmware.

Is it far fetched? Probably. But exciting? Definitely.
