I have a COM port on computer ive just checked this. So can the CK3 pro use USB and COM ports ?

Also this might be a skool boy error but ive made a bootable flash pen using Iprep and copied over all the tools i need.

But I can't get my PC to boot from it. In the BIOS i've changed all the settings to boot from USB first, Cdrom second and then harddisk.

The only options I have is USB-FDD, USB-CDROM and USB-ZIP.

    Any ideas please?
Just plug in the usb drive and then restart your pc then when it's on the bios screen press f8 which should be boot from another device and then hopefully you should should see you pen drive as an option to boot from

Nope its not playing ball. 8(

It goes from the BIOS screen to BOOT FROM CDROM.

Do you need to change the boot order within BIOS first to be able to use F8.

Try pressing the DEL key when booting, thats how I start my bios options.

Yeah I can get into the BIOS and change the boot order.
Its where I go from here.

Pressing DEL gets me into the BIOS and I have the following order

    1) USB-FDD 2) USB-CDROM 3) HDD

I don't have any options for USB-FLASH PEN or USB-STICK.

So i've used the following above options.

I have 4 USB ports on the PC and tired each one.

I have pressed F8 when on the BIOS boot screen and nothing. It gets goes right into windows XP.

Could I create a bootable CD-R and do it this way ? or does it need to be able to write back to the boot device e.g USB flash pen

    Many Thanks

    thanks

Ok thanks guys for all your help

I now can boot from USB memory stick.

I'm using quite an old 2007 Bios for my mini ITX mobo and it was a hidden menu.

Followed the following from their web site

Q: How to boot from USB memory stick on J7F2 Series?
A: Some memory sticks can simulate ZIP format and HDD format.
For zip format, you can go to BIOS setup > Advance BIOS features > First boot device > USB ZIP (Boot from A:\> or B:\>)
For HDD, you can go to
(Prior A14 BIOS) Intergrated peripherals > OnChip device function > Legacy support > Enabled > save and exit > Reboot > Advance BIOS features > HD boot priority > USB HDD (Boot from C:\>)

    I was using A10 BIOS.

So i'm all set to go.

Just to recap before I attempt the read & flash.

I have brought the CK3 Pro bundle which has the USB connection.

I could use jungle flasher to make the DVD key read because this supports USB, but could also use dosflash as a backup to be double sure? But this will require a COM port ? I have a COM port but does the CK3 pro have a COM port as well as USB ?

If i'm ok with this I then move onto the flash but ONLY do this within DOS because jungle flash is alittle buggy still

    Does this sound good ?

    Via CN700 chipset

Doing a quick search on the net and can't find out if the VIA CN700 will work.

My PC used to work with the older drives but will the VIA CN700 work with the lite-on ?

Yes, you must bridge r707. (whatever means you have, spear or solder bridge points etc)

    Via6421

Folks my VIA6421 PCI works on previous drives but always freezes "Writing Block 0..." w/ the Liteon. Have tried on i945 and i975 mobos.

Can anyone confirm their VIA6421A PCI *is* working?

    Thanks,
    J

It's worked on the 3 lite ons i've done, although none of them went smoothly for different reasons, they all got there in the end tho
