Upgraded mine to a maxtor 80gb today, XBMC rules dont know how I ever lived without it.

Tried a maxtor 40gb as well which did not want to work no matter what I tried.
(it was one of those newer slmmer ones)

    Hey,
Well, I finally got an XBOX after reading this thread earlier in the week, I had no problems getting the softmod onto the original HDD that came with the XBOX, and then I also was able to setup a seagate 80gb to boot with softmod with some help from the forums at afterdawn, but I ran into problems when trying to set XBMC as my default dashboard.

I read the wiki at xbmc.com and followed there instructions but I ended up just deleting the original MS dash somehow. Can someone just walk me through it set by step? I've followed all the instructions in the first post to a tee!

    Cheers,

    -edit

Not to worry, got it all sorted.

Tell me i didn't turn my xbox into a paperwieght

I spent last night and all of to day searching tutorials of for softmoding.
i just couldn't get pass the hotswap. After following the this sites tutorial
right before it was to copy C: and E: an error message came saying it could find
C: or E:. Now i Have the blinking red light and a message to call customer service. is there any thing i can do. or is my 2 day old xbox just a paperweight.

You mean you can do without a modchip? I hear there are stack/buffer overflow on Xbox and PS2 (Like HENC for PSP), is this true?
