Reuters: PS3 sales up 300 percent, shortages expected

Reuters reports that Sony has revealed that sales of the PS3 have increased by 300 percent recently. Such an increase in sales has sparked expectations that a shortage may well be on the horizon for PS3.

<blockquote>Sales of the PlayStation 3 video game console jumped in the weeks after a $100 price cut last month, Sony Corp's top PlayStation executive said on Wednesday.

"We are up about 300 percent over where we were pre-price drop," Jack Tretton, chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, said in an interview. "We are up significantly versus last year."</blockquote>

The PS3 sales peak after the price drop, was about the same as their peak last Christmas. If they did not run out of units last Christmas then it is not likely that they will run out now.

not unless sony purposely slows down production trying to get something going like the wii did.

unfortunately the wii is dropping in price so i highly doubt sony could over shadow the crazyness wii will have this tail end of the year

If you said they sold substantially lower before the price drop... it might sound feasible.
