    Dont forget the bootmii backup.

    Honestly though I see this as a pointless update and not recommended. I believe wiibrew.org has an app called wiiscu to update just the store channel.

    wiiscu doesn't actually update the new required system files. It also doesn't download the actual new 4.2 system menu.

    Just make sure not to update IOS60 from Nintendo's servers, the new version is a stub and will brick your 4.0 machine if installed...

    IOS60 is System Menu 4.0/1 so I doubt any dev would have used it in a game...

    I'd like to point out that this update does NOTHING and there is no point in running it. Only thing that 4.2 does is allow you to use the Shopping Channel, which can probably be installed manually...

    @skeav:

    First, install bootmii as boot2 and do a backup

    then just use waninkoko's 4.1 updater.

    now use wiiscu to update the shop channel

    Finally install either startpatch or preloader to block updates and other functions.

    No, all the update contained was a bunch of stub IOS and a few things to remove homebrew. It has no benefits what so ever...

    Does this new firmware 4.2 have to do anything with the new games that came out this and last year or is it for something else

    Its only a "fix" to remove all forms of homebrew. Most new games can work with any system menu as long as you have the righ IOS files or homebrew.
