MS: Forza 3 is the only racing sim shipping this generation

Phil Spencer of MS has taken something of a subtle jab at the delayed release of Gran Turismo 5 by declaring that Forza 3 is the only racing sim shipping this generation.

When responding to a question about developing and shipping high quality exclusive games in either their first or second party studios, Spencer responds to Gamsutra:

"Absolutely. And to ship them! That's an important part of our strategy. Look at Forza shipping next month: the definitive racing sim this generation. You could say it's the only racing sim that's shipping this generation."

Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi recently commented that the pressure from Sony to release Gran Turismo 5 was difficult to bear. Gran Turismo 5 is now set for a March 2010 release in Japan. </blockquote>

It's starting to look like MS is afraid of the impact GT might have, every chance they get they try to put the game down. For what I've heard this might be a GT game I can do without, but I'll reserve final judgment 'til after I play it. Anyways, ms' constant barrage of jabs against GT just strikes me as them showing their insecurities, and/or childish behavior.

Strikes me as marketing hype, It may be immature but its pure hilarity. I doubt its insecurity related to GT its more like the general MS overconfidence, Why would it be GT? they have five months of free market and only have to compete with EA. In my own case Forza 3 will fill the racing urge until GT5 appears.

Agreed. That's a lot of jabs at GT5 now.

What he should have said is that Forza will be the first sim of this generation, not the only one. Right now there are no racing sims of this generation... Is that right? Or was Forza 2 on 360 as well?

Anyway, we really only need 1 racing sim per generation. This isn't the type of game you would churn out like a sports game. If we don't see GT6 until 2015 on PS4, that would be just about right. What will GT6 have that GT5 won't?

For me, quality always comes before quantity. So I don't care that they've released 3 Forza's since the last GT. Their cars list can't come close to touching any GT's or pushing the hardware like Polyphony can do. Even the PSP GT runs at 60 fps.. I don't know of any other PSP title that runs at 60 fps. This one does so whilst looking spectacular (in replay mode). GT5 will be no different.

Did he (Phil Spencer) forget that Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is already out (and perhaps some other racing sims as well, but GT5: Prologue is the only racing sim that i can remember now) and that GT5: Prologue shipped in this generation? And is this interview done before the release date/month of Gran Turismo 5 was announced, and that he thought that GT5 wouldnt be released within within console generation?

I dont have any problems with him saying that he thinks that Forza 3 is the best racing sim in this generation, but i think it is a bit strange that it seems that he only acknowledge that Forza 3 is the only racing sim that ships in this console generation. It makes me wonder if he missunderstood the question or that he was missquoted when he answered.
