PS3 just 4 million sales away from catching up with Xbox 360

Oh? so I could also argue that because of the RROD/Hacking/Banning the 360 has probably sold more than it would have had it been impossible to hack, or if people didn't get tired of sending in their units only to get a refurb which would undoubtedly follow in it's foots steps. These #s are probably crap, but the exact very same thing can be said of MS' #s. I don't think we'll ever get a reliable count on just how big a certain console's install base is. Not unless all retailers work together with some organization that could keep track of it.

It sure does seem the ps3 is gaining momentum, but we can't know for certain if the gap is 4 million, 8 million, or more or less than that. If anybody thinks they can get an accurate # then I would think that person is either gullible, or just delusional.

i read somewhere that microsoft is the only one that has had year to year console sales increase. so wouldn't that mean that the 360 is increasing the gap? but i think its hard like you said to judge sales figures, sony and microsoft both twist the truth when it helps them. one thing i didn't know about was the YLOD that PS3's are experiencing. It seems it is, but who knows just how widespread it is. These days you can't trust anything. Fans are just irrational about their consoles nowadays, you'll have supporters denying their consoles broke, and haters saying that theirs broke, when most of the time they don't even have the console e.i. an obvious ps3 fan saying he's gone through 10 360s, or a 360 fan saying his console has never RRODed when he's actually sent it in 4 times.

As far as ms sales increasing on a yearly basis, that might be true, but it doesn't necessarily negate that the ps3 could be closing the gap. Assuming the ps3 got a huge boost this year (assuming, assuming, assuming) and ms' gains while constant weren't that big, both facts could be true; however, that much I don't know.... we'll have to ask Michael Patcher to look into his magical crystal ball on that one.

As for console reliability and truth from end users...outside the gaming forums and behind the gamestop counters people are usually pretty rational about it. But even here it tends to balance out you can usually tell who is actually being honest and who is full of crap based on the nature of their usual posts. I get called a liar for having a non-modded launch 360 that still works, my 60gb PS3 still works just fine as well. Actually the only console this generation that has given me any trouble was my first Wii it was dead out the box (well not dead really but had nothing white dots all over the screen), but Nintendo swapped it out in less than a week...which I didnt expect considering this was at launch and they were sold out everywhere. There are plenty of people with no agenda that just love games. Dont let the usual band of idiots distract you from that.

Yeah, I know it's probably only a minority that is so irrational about gaming... thankfully. I wish we would stop getting so worked up about sales figures.
