Hackers find a way to stop Microsoft's HD crippling

News has come forward that hackers have found a way to stop the 'HD crippling' that comes with the recent bans imposed by MS on 360's. The NAND focused adaptation looks to be for tech-savvy folks and will not block the ban itself.

<blockquote>GodzIvan strikes again, this time with a diagram which simply write protects the NAND flash in the Xbox 360 by connecting WP to ground pin (if the flash type has different pinout, just find the datasheet to locate WP). This modification does not stop the ban from M$, but it prevents deletion of the HD installation certificates required by games which means you can still install them on the hard drive. In order to update the kernel this mod must be disabled; a simple switch solution comes to mind."</blockquote>

yeah if your 360 is already banned then this is useless.

MS could detect that you have write protected the NAND though.

Just flash back to a older dash and your xbox360 should be discrippled, just dont connect to live anymore. Hope M$ won't put the cripple function in there next update (wave6) tough.

Headline is a bit misleading it should say HDD since that is the abbreviation for hard disc drive since most people refer to HD as high definition.

Well I think this is good, I don't know how much I agree with ms messing around with 360 owners' hardware like that. Sure as pirates we don't exactly deserve to be treated nice, but that just doesn't seem right.

^exactly, they went too far with all the extra damage they did this time around.

anyways this really isn't too practical, just like the whole unbanning crap.
