Uncharted 2 leads the way with EIGHT nominations

Uncharted 2 is leading the way in this year's video game awards with EIGHT award nominations. Elsewhere, MW2 has got six nominations and Left 4 Dead 2 has about the same amount.

The action-adventure "Uncharted 2" is bucking for Game of the Year, as is "Batman: Arkham Asylum," which logged a total of seven nominations, according to Spike TV, which presents the awards.

Military shooter game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" and zombie thriller "Left 4 Dead 2" each has landed six nominations, including Game of the Year. "Assassin's Creed 2" rounds out the contenders for Game of the Year.

Nominated for Studio of the Year are Infinity Ward, Naughty Dog, Rocksteady Studios and Valve.</blockquote>

My question is.. How can some of these games even be nominated if they literally came out yesterday? Most JUST came out. I can understand uncharted 2, even though I havent played it yet cuz its been out for a while. Left for dead 2 is awesome but the damn thing came out this week. Assassins creed 2 for game of the year? by who? the people who have it in the warehouse?

I agree it's a great game, but personally some way behind Batman Arkham Asylum for me i terms of similar game style (BAA just has way more depth to it), tho Dragon Age wipes the floor with all competition, tho that is just my opinion. Anyway not that it matters, these are industry pat themselves on the back awards, they have little to no bearing on public input beyond giving a pre selected list of games to choose from in order to guarantee that the industry chosen titles, devs, pblishers etc. get to pat themselves onthe back.

They get nominated by the industry, it's all a marketing and self congratulatory farce for the most part with these things. It's things like this that make me never trust reviews. It started with films and the ultimate pat youself ont he back awards, the Oscars which was more or less designed to feed the ego's of actors so that they wouldn't go on strike, and now it bleeds over into other areas. Just because a game, film, song etc is on the nomination list doesn't mean it's somthing the public are behind, it just means that these are the things that the industry wants to push at that time.

How many times have you seen an oscar winner that was average at best, proabably every year, the only plus is that usually given less of a choice, good games tend to get nominated so there is more of a chance that somthign half decent get the awards.

I think Game Trailer tried letting the "fans" nominate and pick the GOTY one year... the game turned out to be Madden. I think this is why the United States still falls back on electoral votes, a lot of us can't be trusted. Haha...
