    Uncharted 2 leads the way with EIGHT nominations

    Uncharted 2 is leading the way in this year's video game awards with EIGHT award nominations. Elsewhere, MW2 has got six nominations and Left 4 Dead 2 has about the same amount.

    <blockquote>"Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" has seized a leading eight nominations for this year's Video Game Awards, Spike TV announced Wednesday.

    The action-adventure "Uncharted 2" is bucking for Game of the Year, as is "Batman: Arkham Asylum," which logged a total of seven nominations, according to Spike TV, which presents the awards.

    Military shooter game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" and zombie thriller "Left 4 Dead 2" each has landed six nominations, including Game of the Year. "Assassin's Creed 2" rounds out the contenders for Game of the Year.

    As it should. The game is and should be easily the game of the year.

    yes i download games get over it.

    Despite my console list consisting mostly of xbox360, i'm actually not a fanboy of any console. i'm just supported of any console that can run pirated games. sony needs to get with the program.

    My question is.. How can some of these games even be nominated if they literally came out yesterday? Most JUST came out. I can understand uncharted 2, even though I havent played it yet cuz its been out for a while. Left for dead 2 is awesome but the damn thing came out this week. Assassins creed 2 for game of the year? by who? the people who have it in the warehouse?

    I agree it's a great game, but personally some way behind Batman Arkham Asylum for me i terms of similar game style (BAA just has way more depth to it), tho Dragon Age wipes the floor with all competition, tho that is just my opinion. Anyway not that it matters, these are industry pat themselves on the back awards, they have little to no bearing on public input beyond giving a pre selected list of games to choose from in order to guarantee that the industry chosen titles, devs, pblishers etc. get to pat themselves onthe back.

    They get nominated by the industry, it's all a marketing and self congratulatory farce for the most part with these things. It's things like this that make me never trust reviews. It started with films and the ultimate pat youself ont he back awards, the Oscars which was more or less designed to feed the ego's of actors so that they wouldn't go on strike, and now it bleeds over into other areas. Just because a game, film, song etc is on the nomination list doesn't mean it's somthing the public are behind, it just means that these are the things that the industry wants to push at that time.

    How many times have you seen an oscar winner that was average at best, proabably every year, the only plus is that usually given less of a choice, good games tend to get nominated so there is more of a chance that somthign half decent get the awards.

    I think Game Trailer tried letting the "fans" nominate and pick the GOTY one year... the game turned out to be Madden. I think this is why the United States still falls back on electoral votes, a lot of us can't be trusted. Haha...

    If it was madden and thats the game the majority were all buying. played and enjoyed, then it deserves the game of the year title, not some critically acclaimed pre chosen title that may not do anywhere near as well as the the fan chosen one. I don't think single format games should even be allowed in the nomination tho as they are hardly game of the year if tey have enforced format restrictions. Fair enough make it thats formats game of the year, but overall game of theyear should be multi-format. Telling you what games you can choose just means that it has already been decided by the industry, no doubt via back handers and marketing deals, that these are teh games they want to push, even if they don't get the awards they can claim nomination to aid in sales.

    This is far better than mw2 in my opinion and im a big fan of cod. There is so many great moments in uncharted 2, it deserves credit.

    If the public vote on it with their wallets then it clearly is in the public view. I have yet to see any video game that covers every genre, so that arguement against is irrelevant, are there any flight sim, rpg, sports of any kind, casino, pet games, construction kit etc elements to Uncharted? As great as the game is, I don't recall any so therefore it doesn't meet your criterea so could never be game of the year. The game that sells the most, should be game of the year plain and simple. Many of us on forums like the may dislike that game whatever it may be (if it was madden i'd agree with you but it still wouldn't change the facts), but the majority would clearly not hold that view.

    As it stands, a good game will likley get the award, but it will still be one from the limited selection chosen by the industry not by public opinion unless it a coincidence.

    I love how in THE BEst 360 GAME category they only included 2 exclusive titles,.... and ps3 has all exclusive title.s ... AHAHA 360 has no games!

    Just looked through the nominations and it is nothing but an industry chosen publicity joke. Only chosing famous more popular actors and actresses was a dead give away on that, how the hell meggan fox got a nomination when Claudia Black didn't is clearly a joke, I'm suprised at no uncharted nominations for that full stop, that and the Joker, which i think was mark hammil (he did the voice to perfection).

    The only section I could see that was pretty resonable was he most anticipated games, and that also had a nominate your own title part. I genuinely couldn't decide between Mass Effect 2, God of War 3 or Starcraft 2. Bioshock 2 will no doubt be good, but for me it's not in the same ball park as the other 3.
