MS says Xbox LIVE is its killer weapon over PS3

MS seems to think it has identified its key weapon against its rivals - Xbox LIVE. They recently bragged that they were the first to understand the power of online and they are the ones to evolve it beyond gaming.

I have only tried last.fm and zune app so far and I found them quite poor.

last.fm would be better if it was better integrated so it can be used in, what was the 360's primary purpose again?

the Zune HD app at least for me is pointless since I cant stream HD on my 3mbps connection.

I am not a fan of social networking so I dont use facebook and twitter anyway.

Truth be told the only thing that keeps me on live are my friends (who I know in real life).

At least thats me, others my like it of course.

I just wish though that they did introduce better integration with other free streaming services such as the iplayer, itv player, etc.

that must make a pc + cables hooked to a lcd or plazma tv weapon of mass destruction! netflix, hulu, utube, etc etc etc are better on pc vs live.
Both psn and live charge for recent episodes of many tv shows where you can get them legal and free on pc easily.

netflix on pc is pure win vs consoles.

This reminds me of the serga days where the addon that let you go online and play with a 28k modem in a irc chatroom was advertised as a big thing. Where pc whipped it in every way shape and form.

except for the online play... pc hooked to a tv is better. Multi tasking, more video codecs.
Crap even last gens xbmc was better than these upgrades. It even had rss feeds.

The problem for some is that the PC is no where near the TV. I recently hooked up my PC since I no longer need my dual monitor setup and use it allot now.

Still, you can get plugins for MCE and use the extender for the 360.

Last.FM would be nice if you could do it in the background while playing games

the streaming HD zune is useless, who is going to pay their prices per movie

No one gives a **** about twitter or facebook on a console, at least in its current layout

You can get netflix for free with the PS3 (netflix was the only reason I had Gold, and now I get it free)

Well that's a big load of bollocks there, back in the PS2 days, hardly anyone ever though of playing online on a console, it was mostly Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid back in those days, which is why the Dreamcast was a big fail.
Where-as now the PS3 is all about infrastructure, Sony was going to go with Online in this generation anyway, regardless of Live, Micro$oft set-up Live on the original Xbox so fucking good for them, just shows it's nothing new and it's from a previous generation... just like DVD's... lol.

Unlike you who has probably not even touched a Dualshock 3 controller, I have personally been on Live and the 360 and I'll tell you first-hand that I fucking hated it! Everything is just here-there-and-everywhere on that stupid service, where-as PSN it's all easily accessible, mostly all in one place and easy navigation.

So, by your logic with PSN, a UHF antenna would beat cable/digital/HD TV because it offers the same thing (TV program in your home) AND it is free. Live is clearly superior, the thing is average consumer doesn't care. Despite all the boycotts Modern Warfare 2 on PC is selling, casuals just don't give a **** about castrated online mode, you press a button and you are playing online, doesn't matter with whom or how good the connection is. Same on consoles press button - join game both Live and PSN do that, and PSN is free so its a no brainer what to chose. And its a good thing, the more people go for free PSN the more Ms will be forced to reconsider the Live business model, the services provided on the network are sure worth something but charging for peer-to-peer matchmaking is bullshit, 50$ a year should get you 1 damn slot on a dedicated server or p2p online play should be free.

.... I do belive that PS2, Gamecube, Dreamcast were all before Xbox live and they had a somewhat good online. Hell, dreamcast Quake still goes to this day And so does mario kart on Gamecube.

Xbox live just makes it more user friendly, thats all.

Yes it was for no reason, it had what five games all of them full of hackers? and was quoted as a live beater and would even have a hard drive addon released by sony!!! The funny thing was when PSN was first activated it was barely any more complete than the PS2 network except for the hard drive lol.

The Xbox revolutionised online console gaming in europe/the uk while every other gaming system released here either failed to bring us a service or died an early painful death.

Im not going to agree with your whole post i think both services have a lot going for them now but more so on Live but that just tickled me.

For the people quoting these features remember most of the best ones are not worldwide and for the record both the Xbox video rentals and the PSN video service that have finally reached europe are a freaking joke £12 for less than dvd quality my arse.
