    UnleashX DVD

    Firstly, apologies for my noobness,

    Recently i softmodded my machine (Because the PSP scene is stagnant at the moment), long story short i installed UnleashX, everything seems to be fine except DVD playback, if i put a DVD in the drive (Copied or original) it says at the bottom "Video", and if i press "Launch DVD" it does absolutely nothing.

    Does it require the iR dongle and remote? or is there some settings i need to tweak/software to install?

    Thanks in advance.

    What i usually do is put xbmc or dvdx2 in the apps directory (e.g: F:\Apps\dvdx2) then edit unleashx's config.xml with note pad at this part:

    <Preference>
    <Games AutoLaunch="Yes" />
    <DVD AutoLaunch="Yes">F:\Apps\DVDX2\default.xbe</DVD> <AudioCD AutoLaunch="Yes">C:\xboxdash.xbe</AudioCD>
    <Data AutoLaunch="Yes"></Data>
    <!-- Volume: 0-100 -->
    <SNTP Synchronize="No">216.244.192.3</SNTP>
    <!-- Speed: 1-5 and anything in between, i.e. 1.5 -->
    <FanSpeed>1</FanSpeed>
    <ScreenSaver Wait="60">
    <Text>UnleashX V0.39</Text>
    </ScreenSaver>
    <AutoTurnOff>0</AutoTurnOff>
    <EnableDriveF>True</EnableDriveF>
    <EnableDriveG>False</EnableDriveG>
    </Preference>

    Obviously replace the drive letter and path with something appropriate for your setup first. Its not ideal but its a workaround.

    I think the problem stems from this part of the config.xml:

    <Menu>
    <Item Action="LaunchDVD" >Launch DVD</Item>
    <List Text="Games" Sort="On" Auto="On">
    <Path>E:\Games</Path>
    <Path>F:\Games</Path>
    <Path>G:\Games</Path>
    <Path>E:\HDDLoader</Path>
    <Path>F:\HDDLoader</Path>
    </List>

    You could try editing that part of it to include the dvd rom path, sorry i use xbmc as dash these days as its all round better in my opinion.

    I'll give this a bash (Just to see if i can fix it), I'm going to install XBMC tonight... UnleashX was installed as default with the softmod.

    Does XBMC eliminate this issue?

    Edit: I hate being the noob, I'm not used to it!

    xbmc has its own internal dvd player code, much better than unleashx in my opinion (the only benefit of unleashx that i can recall is that it allowed preview wmv's of your games to be shown whilst scrolling through your games folders).
    Xbmc is much more a complete replacement dash, just be sure to grab the latest xbox build via torrent/newsgroup (XBMC-2010-02-01-rev.-27349.rar is the latest i've seen)

    Heh im a noob when it comes to all this 360 homebrew so i know how it feels lol

    You can also dual boot between the two dashboards, just run the K (something) tools and set up a dual boot to use the eject button to boot XBMC.

    I recommend this because if something goes wrong with one dashboard, you can switch to the alt dash.

    BTW I also recommend the 360 theme for XBMC.

    I'm going to use XBMC-2.0.1-FINAL-FAT-T3CH.rar - which i downloaded from a certain IRC Related FTP server, for now... I've used the stuff stated in tutorials and guides so far (EG: NDURE 3.0, even though 3.1 is available).

    I learned skipping things or doing things differently causes issues when i perma-bricked an XBOX crystal (LPC Rebuild didn't work, kept trying for 4 hours then i threw it out of the door, hence perma-brick).

    I will say one thing though, my computer only has one IDE port, so i did the hotswap soft mod with my DVD drive and XBOX HDD connected together both in cable select. I was nervous lol...

    I plan on running XBMC as an application from inside UnleashX for maybe a few days, i want to get to grips with things, rather than running around this section of MaxConsole asking too many noob questions.

    Tonight's Agenda:
    • Mess around with UnleashX config.xml
    • Get the FTP working (Should be ok wire-networked to my router with my computer connected via WiFi... it's the same principal i guess)
    • Dump the EEPROM (Not sure why I'm doing this, but i assume it's similar to the PSP's NAND Dump process)
    • Install XBMC as an UnleashX application
    • Install some emulators (I'm going to laugh playing GBA games on my 42" TV)

    Then later I'll want to upgrade the hard drive, it's rather small...

    If you're xbox isn't a 1.6 why not just tsop flash it? That way its virtually impossible to screw it up as you can always boot an installer dvd to reinstall everything or gain ftp access to fix paths, etc.

    Just a thought, its only one small solder bridge to perform, then flash the bios from within evolution x

    If it is a 1.6 however, stick with the softmod (unless you want to reattempt an lpc rebuild and modchip install)!

    I guess that's an option I'll have to look into, it's all still new and scary right now, and I'm going to take things slowly at first (Hence running my version of XBMC as an UnleashX application first, if it works I'm confident i can replace UnleashX with it, probably using the shortcut method or something)

    I'm not attempting to hard mod another one, to be honest i think doing the LPC rebuild with wires is probably easier than the LPC rebuild kit, the solder doesn't flow off the LPC rebuild board onto the motherboard particularly well... is there software available to identify the mobo?

    NB: there is a lot for me to find out...

    To find out your version of xbox:
    http://www.xbox-scene.com/versions.php

    Really its only a couple of dabs of solder, theres a great tutorial here (top one called "Flashing TSOP With ANY Version XBOX (V1.0-V1.5) For Noobs" :

    http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox-tutor...hp?p=14|22|#22

    Have a read and you'll see its quite easy really. (you only need to read up to the "flashing" section as the flash can be performed from within evo x because you are softmodded).
    Once your bios is how you want it to be set up, simply ftp it over to where ever evo x' "Bios" folder is and launch evo x, then choose flash. Your bios will be listed, select it and it flashes it for you. The xbox then turns itself off, turn it back on to be greeted by your new bios

    I'll take a look... for now though, is there anything i shouldn't be messing with, or things to avoid?

    And is there anything i should be doing backup wise?

    dont delete or rename anything on C: unless youre sure its ok to do so. Also applies to your softmod files (possibly on E.
    If you're unsure just post here, deleting or renaming can break your softmod and that would require a modchip to get out of.

    Back up your E: drive for all your savegames and its a good idea to get your eeprom and hdd unlock code too (use config magic to get this but dont choose to unlock it!)

    Good luck

    Config Magic says i have a v1.6 mobo...

    Code:
    *******  CONFIGMAGIC INFORMATION FILE  *******

    XBOX VERSION = 		V1.6
    KERNEL VERSION: 	1.0.5838.1
    XBOX RAM = 		64 MBYTES

    XBOX SERIAL NUMBER = 2090201 yadda yadda
    XBOX MAC ADDRESS = 00-0D- yadda yadda
    XBOX ONLINE KEY = 7339481D91C2E5.. yadda yadda
    XBOX VIDEO MODE = 	PAL
    XBOX XBE REGION = 	04
    XBOX HDD KEY = D7415ABA44406 yadda yadda
    XBOX CONFOUNDER = 54E8CDAF yadda yadda

    XBOX HDD MODEL = 	ST310014A
    XBOX HDD SERIAL = 5JRF yadda yadda

    XBOX HDD PASSWORD = DB12FDD5AF5C2BE57B7 yadda yadda

    XBOX DVD MODEL = 	PHILIPS J5 3235C
    With the HDD Password can't i just unlock it with the computer and re-install even if i frag it?

    No option to tsop then, pity.

    Yes as long as you have that unlock key stored safely you can play about a bit safer. Still backup your eeprom and avoid deleting/renaming anything off of C: (especially anything named xb0xdash.xbe or xboxdash.xbe) unless you believe its safe to do so and you should be fine.
    Its a good idea to copy the entire contents of your C: and E: drives into separate folders onto your pc to make it easier to reinstate the hdd should you need to (xboxhdm requires these plus your hdd unlock code and possibly your eeprom* to recreate it correctly.
