Can someone help with PSone game problem?

I've been trying for about a day now to get official PSone classics to run on CFW.
I currently have a PSP 1000 series with 5.50 GEN-D3 installed. The firmware version seems to be irrelevant as I have tried on various versions of M33 CFW. I have got popsloader on the memory card also which is also enabled and still I can not run the games.
When I try to load the game I get the error message "Game could not be started. (80020148) which if I remember correctly was an error given when playing UMD ISO's without enabling the M33/Sony driver.
What else can I try to get them to work?

1)Your custom firmware does have a ps1 emulator built into the firmware. It's called pops.

Error 80020148 means that the PRX type is unsupported.

Do you understand that you can't just run your ps1 games as .iso files though, right? You must use a converter which converts your ISO's into an eboot.pbp

2)Put floder and eboot in this way.
    example
    X:/PSP/GAME/MEGAMAN/EBOOT.pbp

Choose a brief name around 8 characters to be sure.

3)Maybe you try to run a official PSN store Psx game. Usually they have lastest official firmware. (last is 6.20).

If psx game from PSN has 6.20 you can't run it on 5.50GEN D3.

My own conversions of games work fine no problems there. It's just getting official ones to work which I download from the PSN. FF7 seems to be the only official game that works.

I can't think of any other problems because Crash Bandicoot was a launch title for PSone classics and even that doesn't work on my current version of CFW.

Also for some reason when I load any of the PSone classics and hold down R to load the pops version changer nothing happens, I either get that error I mentioned or in FF7's case the game loads as normal but the pops version changer doesn't show up.

What else should I attempt to get them working?

This is very strange, because FF:VII from PSN need 6.00 firmware to work. Inside 6.00 Popstation there is the full compatibility. Then it should not work on 5.50GEN...

I think he just means that it boots, not if it crashes or not

Turn off your PSP properly, Hold R and turn it on to start recovery mode.
There's a menu in there somewhere with POPs/PSP/XMB? .PRX plugin options, change them all to disabled and reboot your psp You'll also need to enable the sony driver once you've done this. they should work fine after that other than bugs due to fixes applied within the newer PSone emulator.

Thanks for all the replies. I will try out everything said. Just to clarify on what one poster said, when I load FF7 I can actually play the game perfectly, no crashes or bugs as expected from an official PSone Classic.

EDIT: Ive reflashed my PSP and I am currently running 3.80 M33, and now FF7 doesn't work.

I have also discovered that the popsloader plugin only seems to work when I'm running an PSX eboot I made myself and not the PSN games.

When trying to run the official games I either get (CA000006) which I can solve by putting keys.bin into each game folder but then I'm back to where I started with the (800xxxxxx) error.

PSN games are designed to use the official emulator FF7 will run perfectly on 5.50, MGS is meant to be okay on 5.50 but FF8 will not run properly on anything below 6.xx-6.20.

If you're having trouble running PSN games on 5.50 GEN D3 change the options that i suggested and change to the sony driver, Even MGS:PW works.

You don't need popsloader for PSN games, popsloader is outdated anyway so until someone updates it or makes it compatible with newer versions of the emulator its kind of pointless.

I have disabled the options you said and I've changed to the Sony driver and I'm still getting error code 80020148.

    My recovery settings are:

    Configuration
    skip sony logo-disabled
    hide corrupt icons-disabled
    game folder homebrew-1.5 kernel
    autorun program-disabled
    umd mode-sony np9660 no umd
    fake region-disabled
    vshmenu-enabled
    xmb ysb device-memory stick
    m33 update-enabled
    hide pic0 and pic1-disabled
    version.txt-enabled
    slim colors-disabled
    hide mac address-disabled

    Advanced configuration
    plain modules-disabled
    execute boot.bin-disabled
    xmb plugins-disabled
    game plugins-disabled
    pops plugins-disabled

    Plugins
    popsloader-enabled

I may end up going back to 6.20, just seems bit stupid that I can't get official PSone classics to work on custom firmware.

I have many games I have ripped from my original CD's and they all work as good as. I purchased the certain games on PSN because I no longer owned the CD versions and because I wanted to play them on the PS3 aswell.

I've eliminated it being a problem with memory stick because I tried my memory stick in a friends PSP which has 6.20 OFW and they all work fine. I have just ran out of ideas completley to get this working.

I haven't purchased any PSP games from PSN so I don't know if they would work. Even if I wanted to that would prove difficult being on custom firmware and the PS3 won't make the connection nor will Media GO.

Thanks for helping, much appreciated. Any more ideas are welcome.

EDIT: For the sake of curiosity I downloaded the an official PSN version of Metal Gear Solid from a torrent site which is NTSC and it works fine on my PSP I live in a PAL region BTW.

All psp games (Psx PSN and PSP game) are region free.

Theoretically, you could not even play the games Psp from PSN. They are in eboot.bpb like Psx game and they have generally last ofw. (6.20). Then you can't run it on 5.50GEN. Only way is to convert and pathing them. But not all game are patchable.
