Looks like a PSP Phone is set for development

According to reports, Sony Ericsson has once again hinted at a possible PSP phone. He noted that previously there has been no tie between them and the PSP platform but we can hear much more about in the future.

As quoted by <a href="http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/02/17/mobile.company.to.collaborate.with.gaming.division/" target="_blank">Electronista</a>, here is what was said:

"We missed the window for high-end and touchscreen devices big time," Nordberg admitted. "Part of the recovery will be much better design and closer work with our partner Sony... In the past there was no tie-up between us, the PSP platform and Sony, but you can expect to hear much more about that."

Makes sense since they want to distribute all the psp games digitally now anyway.

I would really consider this, if it was done right.

I love my iPhone, but gaming really isn't the strong suit of the iPhone. (I'm in the "need d-pad and buttons" camp).

I hate comparing things to the iPhone, but they really have set the standard for casual smart phones. Now, if Sony can do it right, it'd be great. They need it to have what is already expect, good apps, easy to control, easy to use, easy to browse the internet. And then add on quality PSP gaming experience on top of that for it to interest me.

If they can deliver that, I'd buy one in a sec. If it's half-assed, I'll pass.

Expect it to have the biggest problem with the iphone though.

I second that....especiall if it has dual analog. Why in the hell hasn't that come to the PSP?

I would buy one. A proper gaming phone will be a phenomenal success and it will become the new trend to follow for all other phone or console makers. It will force Nintendo and Apple to reconsider their tactics when they are left fighting for leftover market share.

This move must be a response for the new Microsoft's mobile platform Windows Mobile 7 Series OS with Xbox live and a hardware standard (for games etc.) aka the Microsoft hand held console with hardware that anyone can produce (with a license).

Things are getting interesting in the mobile market; consoles with phone included, hybrid gaming platforms with multiple hardware producers. Now all we need is Nintendo pulling their heads out their asses and producing a DS2 with phone support.

I wish Nintendo would see the benefits of only being a OS (and game) producer so that anyone could produce their consoles. That would give the consumer a variety of choices for how the console looks and feels.

I'd bet my house on it. A UMD drive is about the size of a modern phone these days so they'd be mad to put one in.

No UMD drive will be in. Like I said, it will be like the PSP Go. You'll just download games directly to your unit. And also, I said they might be taking concept from the PSP Go since it's the only hardware that lasts more than 5 hours of playtime. We'll see how things go first.
