Thread: GCOS 1.5 autoload

    GCOS 1.5 autoload

i get a blank screen.. when i use vhq-cardwriter_1.1 and edit some of the commands to inject GCOS 1.5 (renamed as level3.dol) and replace it in my 251 block official nintendo mem card....... i read the thread about using nikita's format.dol or something.... to get level3 to work on big (i'm assuming u mean 251 blocks) mem cards..... but i don't know how to use it

i tried for so long, different ways of setting it up.... i read the thread where ppl are posting raw images of the mem cards..... so i tried some of them, but what's the point of sharing raw images of ur mem card if it'll corrupt ur card, but will only work from the memory card it came from?????

    and now i give up...

can someone just create a new vhq-cardwriter? or tell me what i'm doing wrong? i could have sworn this is how u autoboot GCOS.. by making it level3.dol and inject that using ctr-gcs....

try my memcard installer v0.5 after using format.dol on your card (it will erase your card!)

nope, didn't work, it does the same thing as injecting with ctr-gcs

format.dol, it makes the card unreadable in the GC save manager, am i supposed to format it using the GC save manager as well?

Ok, It works now, thanks emu!

i formatted using format.dol, formatted using GC save manager in the original bios, made installers (using Memcard Installer v0.5) for AR, level2, level3 (gcos1.5) and wrote them to the card, in that order..

sorry if i had to make this an isolated thread.. i should have posted in the thread "Memcard Installer v0.5 and samsons install.dol hack"

    Thanks for the guide

Cool, thanks DeepBlade. Now I can make memory cards for other people that work with AR by using my Viper Extreme USB.

Up until now I hadn't got 'round to learning how to do softmods but this Guide of yours is so simple and can be done by just injecting .dol files.

Most people just find the solution to their problems in the forums and then just keep it to themselves but you've gave something back. Nice one

heheh, no problem, I'm glad I could help.

I was afraid that my instructions were still a little too complicated for the average newbie to the scene, since i didn't explain how to run DOLs (via PSO+BBA or other means)... not saying that you are one, but if anyone still has questions, i'll be periodically checking back here if u still have any questions about how things work..

and if I have time, i'll make a package that installs GCOS 1.5 'with' a menu, for those that have an official nintendo 251 memory card and can afford to put more apps on the mem card, and obviously, i'll keep these packages updated whenever a new version of GCOS is released.

Thx for making this a sticky, emu! I'll continue to pledge lots of support to this forum.

    Hey, DeepBlade, great stuff !!!

I've got one question though: Your "4 install-gcos15.dol" is the only dol, which installs a working GCOS15 to my MemCard. Whenever I try to make one using dol2gci etc. on GCOS1.5 or the beta it won't boot. Only black screen after booting from AR. Is there anything special with this version ? How did you make it ? I realized, that it takes 40 Blocks on my MC, whereas my other "tries" only took 16 or 18 Blocks. This seems to be the reason why they don't work, so what do I have to do in order to get working install files for dols to boot from MemCard ?
Also another question, is there any way to copy a raw-image of a MemCard on MC using "memcard installer v0.5" or any other tool, using only AR+SD-Adapter ? I don't have a bba.

    THX in advance,

no, there's nothing special about the GCOS1.5 it installs, it's the same as if you download straight from the GCOS site.. my "4 install-gcos15.dol" was made from using Memcard Installer v0.5.... all it does is write GCOS 1.5 to your memory card

you're not supposed to write the install files such as "4 install-gcos15.dol" to your memory card... all you have to RUN it (along with the other install files), and they will write the necessary files to your mem card such that GCOS 1.5 will autoboot straight from AR.... you don't need to boot the install files from your mem card

i think mem card installer only writes dols to your mem card.. if you want to write a raw image of a mem card to your mem card, i believe you need a BBA and use ctr-gcs

i hope i've answered your questions... feel free to ask more if you're still confused

Well, u misunderstood me. I tried making install.dols from the *(PSO).dols of the GCOS15-Release and executed them. They copied the level3.dol on memcard, but when running action replay in order to execute level3.dol, all I get is a black screen. The only working level3.dol was yours, and that's why I wonder, how you made "4 install-gcos15.dol", especially which dol u used in for Memcard Installer v0.5. The level3.dol I get on my Memcard using your "4 install-gcos15.dol" takes 40 Blocks in space, whereas the install.dols I made on my own from GCOS15(PSO).dol copied a level3.dol on my Memcard, which only took 16 Blocks or so.
I need to know this because I want to run the new beta, the one with multidisk support, from Memcard, not the GCOS1.5.final. In order to achieve this I need a working install file, I know. But as stated above I can't get this method to work. Although my install.dols do copy a level3.dol on the Memcard, they cannot be executed out of AR, so I'm asking you, how exactly your "4 install-gcos15.dol" was made, step-by-step, especially, which level3.dol you used.

Hope I made myself clear this time, it's been a long time since I had english at school...

    THX again,

    with "GCoS 1.5 (PSO).dol", I renamed it to level3.dol, dol2gci-ed it to myfile.gci, and used "Memcard Installer v0.5"'s makedol.bat command.... to create "4 install-gcos15.dol"...

similarily, you can rename "GCoS Public Beta.dol" to level3.dol, dol2gci it to a file named myfile.gci and use Memcard Installer v0.5 to create an installer of your own...

    I hope this helps
