Important: this guide is based on windows PC, NOT MAC.
Before flashing the iEDGE, if you insert the iEDGE into the slot-1 of the DSi, you can see the following. That means the iEDGE has not been flashed yet. You need to start the setup from Step 1.
If you can see the Sudoku icon instead of the BLACK EDGE icon, good news for you. Your iEDGE has been flashed with the correct firmware. Please proceed to step 11 to setup the OS.
Step 1
FORMAT the MicroSD card with supplied IEDGE USB microSD card reader in Full. Once the formating is done, DO NOT remove the microSD or the microSD card reader.
Take note:
* The file system for the format SHOULD be FAT32.
* The microSD card reader used should be the one came with iEDGE.
Step 2
Get the bootstrap update application EdgeBootUpdate-v1.exe ready. Make sure that the application is on your PC instead of the microSD. The easiest way is to place the file on your desktop.
If you do not have the bootstrap update application, please download it from here.
Step 3
Get the Sudoku ready. For information on how to obtain the Sudoku, please refer to the iEDGE Bootstrap v1 Updater (Windows) Readme text file from EDGE team.
Similar to the bootstrap update application, please put the Sudoku on your desktop.
Step 4
Run the EDGEBootUpdate-v1.exe bootstrap update file and you can see the following window with the title iEDGE Boot Update. The application automatically identify your microSD memory card. In this example, it is at drive J:
Step 5
Locate the Sudoku, which was placed on the desktop, if you have been following every step mentioned above.
Step
Step 6
Click Update to continue the flashing.
Step 7
Flashing is done. At the same time, a new window pops up. It is the root folder of the microSD memory card. In this case, it is called the drive J removal disk.
Under the root folder of the microSD, there is new file generated from the flashing process mentioned above. A new filebupdate BIN file has been written to microSD root folder.
Important: bupdate BIN file is required for updating the iEDGE cart on the DS in the next step.
If you can't see the bupdate BIN file, please restart from step 1.
Step 8
Plug in the wall power adapter for your DSi. This is vital as flashing can't be interrupted. Do not turn on the DSi yet.
Plug in the microSD to the iEDGE and then the iEDGE into the slot-1 of the DSi.
Turn on the DSi.
Do not press any button of the DSi.
Leave the DSi on a table or flat surface.
Bootstrap update flashing should start almost immediately.
Step 9
This is the most crucial part of the bootstrap flashing.
Look at the iEDGE in the slot-1. The LED light inside the iEDGE should be visible as below (orange).
If the bootstrap flashing functions correct, the LED light should flash on and off.
If the LED light is constantly on, that means that flashing does not function correct. Please restart the process from step 1.
The flashing will intensify slowly and the LED light will be off when the flashing is completed.
Step 10
If you have come this far to this step, congraduation! You have successfully flashed the iEDEG, the most difficult part of the whole process.Xpertron Support - EDGE DS
Step 11
Download the latest driver/kernel/firmware from the official website: www.edge-ds.cn
Step 12
Before copying the driver/kernel to the microSD, please format your microSD on your PC. This is to remove all the data on the memory card.
a) After inserting the microSD into the card reader, go to My Computer. Right click the driver representing the microSD memory card.
c) Choose Format
d) Click Start to format the memory card
Step 13
Unzip the file downloaded (using Winrar/Winzip) on your PC
a) Unzip the driver/kernel/firmware file. Winrar/Winzip can be downloaded from www.download.com.
Note: the following uses the R4 SDHC driver for illustrative purpose. The setup procedure is exactly the same for EDGE except that the driver files are different.
c) Open the unzipped folder. The name of the folder could vary.
d) Select and copy all the files shown below.
Step 14
Copy the unzipped files to the microSD memory card
Step 15
Copy your own files, including music, movies, pictures and homebrew games to the microSD memory card
Step 16
Plug in the microSD to the R4.When inserting or changing carts on slot-1, switch off the DS, insert in the cart and then start the DS.
You should see the Sudoku icon.
If you still see the following, that means the bootstrap flashing is not done successfully. Please repeat from step 1 again and follow the steps one by one.
Important: after lauching the Sudoku iEDGE programme, if you see the white screen for over 1 minute, please reboot your DSi.
