SNES Breath of Fire II Fan Translation runs slow for me - settings?

Thought I'd give II a try (I love III and IV), but I'm having problems.

1) I'm told this has a bad checksum - I'm certain there's not a lot I can do about this as most fan-hacked games have bad checksums (Star Ocean etc). If someone knows of a good checksum rom, PM me please.

2) Whenever I enter the menu or speak with an NPC, the music slows to a crawl, as does the text (the game is slow on "Fast" messaging speed and unbearable on "Slow" messaging speed).

If someone has SNES9x Euphoria settings that work for them when they play this game, please post 'em. I really want to play this game, but at the moment, I can't enjoy it.

you can try the GBA version, it is in English
it is not the Fan Translation, but may run better

you also do know the there is a English version of the SNES game
