They can't claim the sole right to the use of the word "pod". The most they can do is claim the use of this word in conjunction with mediaplayers. But filing an 873 page document for just this seems a little overkill to me. Probably they also have an army of lawyers ready for infringements on this claim.

Does this mean if they claim the ownership of the word "pod" that supermarkets and veg shops will have to call pea pods something else? o.O; seem's a little silly to me, I figure if they claim the work in conjunction to mediaplayers as stated above that makes much more sence, however the WHOLE word? >.> I might just claim ownership of Capital Letters -.-

Nobody can own a word. That's just bullshit.

It's like the guy sueing SKYPE because he thought they were ripping him off by using the word "Sky" or something.

And it's like Paris Hilton trying to trademark "that's hot" for herself.

but this claim is against a small company making a video projector not a media player.

If "video pod" is being confused with "ipod", you should probably consider getting smarter customers.

Just when I think nobody can be quite as idiotic as sony.... I get a reality check from who else but my favorite bunch of buffoons. It's so ridiculous you would think it part of some comedy, or something.

Too bad Apple's entire business model revolves around idiots that are swayed by flashy shiny things and willing to stand in line to pay hundreds a year for a small upgrade.

Blame US copyright law: If Apple doesn't attempt to stop this (and similarly named products) then they risk being seen as "failing to defend" their copyright. Then when someone comes along with the "MyPod" (or some other blatant rip-off) Apple would have a serious fight on their hands. Failing to defend your copyright is the same as surrendering your copyright.

I associate products that are apple made/owned with the letter I ;Iphone, Ipad,Imac
pod is a reference to a small object capable with docking with something else

you can not own a word from a language

perhaps the estate of Robert Cawdry should copyright all the words he had in his first English dictionary?
