Xbox 360 Slim - 4GB or 250GB?

Hi, I'm new here so please excuse me if i do something wrong.

I'm going to be purchasing the new Xbox 360 Slim soon and was set on buying the 250GB version with Fifa 11 for £209.00 . However, after speaking to my friend, he pointed out that he only uses a small amount of memory on his hard drive (60GB console). So i have two questions;

Is it worth buying the 250GB console over the 4GB one?
I have an 500GB external hard drive, would i be able to plug this in and use it as my hard drive?

Well if you plan on downloading DLC or arcade games then 4GB will not be enough, I would get the 250GB. You can't use an external harddrive for these things.

you can use a 16GB usb stick though.

in all honesty youd be better off getting a 250gb drive from ebay or various sites. they are cheap ($50 or so, USD).
