At the very least i would make sure you can compile and convert software for it.. the best test would be to wait for an update of hermes or something. if people start releasing files for it before they release their official update you know three things.
1: They're depending on scene releases all the way.
2: Scene releases can be converted for it somehow.
3: .bin is kind of pointless.
Now they do have hermes and KaKaRoTo on their site what's puzzling is its just an update.bin and KaKaRoTo is booting from the memory card?
So are we updating with a .bin which will also affect the memory card or are we using a .hex file for one and a .bin for another?
On the other hand:
This version not only allows you to flash pre-compiled X3 Max firmwares as before, but now for the first time anywhere, our V2 update allows flashing of *any* hex file regardless of chipset. No longer will you need to wait around wondering when a payload for your chipset will be available.
The people behind the X3 Max have updated it to allow you to use any .hex payload you want, Now if everyone did this their products would probably be more appealing,
I see going off the format trail as an attempt at a lock-in and the people behind the X3 Max have done the right thing.
If gamebox go the same route or i am getting it wrong (not sure i am though) then fair enough but it smells fishy to me.
