Since a new hack is right around the corner, i've decided to invest in a ps3.. (i'm finally convinced)... my problem now is, what is the best version to get? an old one tha still has ps2 compatibilities or a new slim one with a bigger hard-drive?

hard drive size doesnt matter because if you want it for piracy then you'll be sticking a big hdd in and adding a big external too.
when it comes to the physical machines though its different, if you go for a very early machine you'll get ps2 compatibility but a very unreliable machine, this is the machine we early adopters bought and many have died, the rest of the phats offer no advantage as they are still unreliable and unless you get lucky and get a model on 3.15 (which has other os) then frankly the overheat issues and ylod just make it not worthwhile. the slims are better although far from perfect so if you dont need ps2 bc (which chances are will soon be emulated on all ps3's) then look for a slim at a fair price, the hdd size isnt too important as you are going to most likely stick a big hdd in anyway.
