First off, i'd like to pose this question to nobody in particular, but why no ps3 development and hacking section in ps3?
With that said, I have always looked at the JaiCrab CFW loader with hope when it came out, thinking that if I just wanted to play on the new firmware, i'll just load it in JaiCrab. Started researching it and I soon found out that's not the way it works. You can only copy your current dev_flash of your current firmware, modify and use that to load from.
I took a look into the pup files, decrypted it hoping I would find dev_flash in there, but I didn't...well not really.
I found files in and update.tar archive labeled as such: dev_flash_000.tar.aa.2011_01_29_035533
This was found in the 3.55 update. Seems kind of obvious that the appended name on the back is release date with yyyy_mm_dd_fmwver. I'm wondering if anybody has any ideas on how to get access to these files or know if the actual dev_flash has files similar to this as I am not near my machine atm. My hope is to a) pull current dev_flash and backup to usb and b) use these update files to update the copy of the dev_flash on my usb to run latest fw in hopes of playing online and whatnot. Homebrew or any of that would not personally be my concern as my intention is to play my purchased games online even at a possible performance degradation. Any ideas or insights?
