Do you have the latest bootmii as boot 2 installed and a recent backup?

There are three possible solutions I can think of:
    1. Install/update all non-mothballed/system menu/cios IOS using dop-mii (use the non-wiibrew edition if you want trucha)

    2. Update all homebrew methods, i.e. HBC, CIOS, backup launchers, etc.

    3. If this does not work, then you could try updating to the latest system menu (I believe 4.3 only deletes bootmii as ios, not as boot2) as long as you have a current backup.

Then reinstall the latest CIOS (HBC should still be there if up to date) and see if it runs now.

Of course 4.3 doesn't allow trucha without additional patches (do you need it?).

    1) i thought everything is up to date
    2) since nothing except neogamma sees the usb is there any point in updating other loaders (which i dont use)
    3) i dont have a backup as i dont have the free space on my sd, my bootmii is on ios not boot 2 and crashes whenever i try to load it anyway (as does accacia hacks and gecko), i use trucha a lot (or will again once my usb works again) for singitstar, i really dont want to go beyond 4.0e (i do have wanankios "safe" 4.0 updater somewhere).

I just did a google search, try installing hermes CIOS and have neogamma use that.

    (see post 4)

In regards to bootmii, try updating it here: http://bootmii.org/download/

I also suggest installing priiloader if you havent got it already (dont install if you already use e.g. starpatch or another patcher) since this can be used to enter bootmii in the case of some semi-bricks.

I honestly suggest having the nand backup, just temporarily clear an SD card and transfer the backup to a computer.
