    Question weird ps3 rsod fault

    hi guys,

m8 got kweam cfw installed the other day and all was running grand.he was playing killzone 3 when the ps3 frooze and could not be switched off unless power at back was turned off.when he switched it on he got the rsod.i tried to sort it by recovery mode no joy there.i then tried to downgrade it from 3.55 to 3.41,all went well,ps3 turns on,you see the wavey lines for a sec then the rsod, but sound plays in background for a while.its a 80gb pal version.it will now not go into recovery mode just switches off.

tried sticking in a non formatted hdd ps3 just turns off,but if i use the original drive ps3 gives wavey lines then rsod.any idea as to what is wrong.is it totally bricked or can it be repaired?

p.s have included an update log from downgrading.

You're looking at catastrophic failure of the system.... The fault supposedly relates to a bad nand or a bad flash however I cannot find consensus on the causes of this issue. Unfortunately the only solution I have seen that works is sending the system back to Sony for a paid repair if it's out of warranty.

I wonder, Did he attempt to flash with service mode active or did he use service mode at any point? Did you attempt to exit service mode once you had arrived on 3.41?

Things to potentially try (note these are all guessing suggestions and I take absolutely no responsibility for any further damage incurred):
    1) You should attempt to exit the service mode on 3.41 based on the chances it still may be active.
    2) Place a later firmware on a FAT32 formatted USB stick in the correct location and try a system update from recovery mode again.

Since he had a modified/patched firmware on there and you've also downgraded it, he has likely lost blu-ray support in the process which would require a separate fix anyway, Hopefully he had a backup of the correct directories before you attempted it.

I am afraid that Sony will likely know what you did if you send it back to them in this state.

    Question

thanks for reply.he had been playing it on flashed cfw firmware for about 5 days with no issues at all when it just froze in the middle of a game.ps3 would not turn off so he had to unplug it.when turned back on,he got rsod.dont think it was a bad flash as all was ok with it for a few days.

goes into recovery mode with no issues at all and can be downgraded by dongle with no issues, just that when he turns it on takes a bit longer to boot, then wavey lines for about a sec the rsod with start up sound still playing in background.

That is strange, My suggestion would be either to try that website with PSX- in the name or a decent console repair store. I can't seem to find more information so I'll just give my hope that you and your friend find a solution

You could have a talk with Total Console Repair if you're in the UK http://www.totalconsolerepair.co.uk/...ex.asp?sc=5036 they could give you a general idea of the fault perhaps. If you use this link you'll get 10% off courtesy of GAME http://www.game.co.uk/Help/~h9811/Pr...onsole-Repair/
